This writer was recently handed a 3 Ears (Record label) sampler CD, consisting of two acts; Steve Adams and Philippe Thibaut so he thought he would review it for the wonderful Up-Load UK Heard of either of these artists? Don't worry, neither has the writer, but when someone like Steve Vai says 'Rarely do I hear such inspired players; you know it can't be bad!

The first four tracks are by Steve Adams, a simply awesome guitar player who is based in LA, he is influenced by greats such as Satriani and Vai. The four tracks on this CD by him are great. The opening track 'Wah Happened' shows that he is very capable indeed; we can see what Mr. Vai is on about! The second track oddly entitled 'Gnomes Uncombed' is a very magical track, sounding very much like Steve Vai, much more so than the latter that this wouldn't even sound out of place on one of his albums! The next track entitled 'Fragile' is only an excerpt of a solo from a song, but this is very emotional and chilled, Steve Adams obviously puts his heart and soul into his songs as the writer can certainly hear! The last track from Steve Adams on this sampler is 'Endless' a very emotional, acoustic track, a fitting end to his material on the CD, I think we all know who should be joining Joe Satriani and Steve Vai on the next G3 tour!

We now move onto Philippe Thibault who again, is a very capable guitar player, more similar to Joe Satriani this time however. The first track of his placed on the sampler is entitled 'Inside the Hurricane'. Surfing with the alien, anyone? 'Cosmic Dream' has a brilliant intro. This is just the kind of song that makes you want to lie back and just stare into a night sky, awesome stuff. Midnight music indeed! The final track by Philippe Thibault and the last track on the sampler is entitled 'Freefall' which showcases some wonderful fretboard skills, a good close, to a surprisingly good sampler! If you ever get the chance to check out either of these two artists, do so!
