Scar Symmetry are not just your average, run of the mill melodic death metal act, they are much more. This band has recently signed to Nuclear Blast records and have many high profile appearances scheduled for this year such as playing at ProgPower Europe and Wacken Open Air festival. Their debut album entitled 'Symmetric in Design' received much praise throughout the metal world, so the question is, will their new album 'Pitch Black Progress' receive the same praise?

The melodic yet hard opening track on this album 'The Illusionist' really paves the way for this album, an incredibly catchy track most likely soon to become their standard gig opener. The second track 'Slaves to the Subliminal' takes a harder and heavier approach to things than the latter track, but a melodic chorus is still intact.

The band don't actually see themselves to be a melodic death metal act, in a recent interview with us they said 'we're driven by the urge to create something new compared to what we've done in our musical pasts or actually take elements from what we've done before with other bands and mix it up with new stuff. I think that is what makes us stand out; we weren't formed by the sound of today's melodic death.'

It is apparent whilst listening to this album that there is more here than just a melodic death act, Scar Symmetry certainly have something more interesting to offer up, even more so than pioneers of the genre such as the modern Arch Enemy we know today.

'Pitch Black Progress' certainly has many capturing moments and is certainly a fresh album, the beauty of the melodic sections and fury of the pounding heavy sections makes for a great mix. Scar Symmetry will soon become big.
