The Unknownn by The Unknownn Released October 2005
Well what
can I say ! After listening to all 58 minutes and 40 seconds of this album
all I can say is thank you to the Unknownn for letting us have a copy of this
masterpiece. I love it.
These musicians are talented beyond words and the sound they produce is quite
unique and incredibly moreish. I would love to see them perform live as I
can imagine the whole room would be stood transfixed by their presence.
The haunting sound just washes over your body as you listen to this and it
bounces around the speakers hitting you with a different sound from every
angle before it shoots round and does it all over again.
This band are destined for greatness so get out and buy this album now and
look out for live dates near you. I know the Team here will be getting to
see them really soon.
Track
1 Nocturnal
A twangy intro leads into a heavier base sound then the female vocal breezes
in with her haunting voice. This is an almost ambient track with loads of
great vocals and an eerie sound throughout that echoes from speaker to speaker.
Track
2 Cure All
A popping sound beats back and forth before the drums then guitars enter this
track. Slightly more upbeat than the last track but still with the great haunting
vocal sound. Great mixing produces a mellow sound with the guitars and drums
being more prominent with excellent riffs throughout that end with some great
drumming echo effects..
Track
3 Raw
A piano intro this time with a stronger vocal sound> A very sad sounding
song full of emotion and crystal clear vocals. The piano sound is very prominent
throughout which really adds to the character of this track. The beat increases
dramatically nearer the end with great guitar sounds suddenly blasting out
at you that crash down all around the vocal, you can really feel the pain
coming from her voice before it all trails off to the softer sounds that begin
the track ending in popping almost heartbeat sounds . I love this track.
Track
4 Get It
An echo vocal with soft piano and cymbal sounds start this track. It then
goes slightly more upbeat with twin female vocal sounds . Not the strongest
track on the album but still a very good one. It seems to be a bit repetitive
in places which isn’t really suprising as it is over five and a half
minutes long.
Track
5 Serious
A cello begins this track and then violins blend in beautifully building up
to a piano and vocal harmony. Another heartfelt sad song with the echoing
haunting vocals that are prominent from this band. The ‘heartbeat’
sounds are playing throughout that only seem to emphasise the sadness that
this song is about. A beautiful track.
Track 6 Squeeze
The tempo is raised for this track with some great guitar work playing almost
subliminally in the background before everything comes to a sudden holt. Only
50 seconds long .
Track 7 Duplicitous
Very mellow vocals this time, none of the haunting sound that you have come
to expect, piano and cello are quite prominent again. A song about a man with
a broken heart, this is so beautifully presented by the band. The tempo is
raised nearer the end with much stronger instrumental use that build right
up before they almost disappear to leave the great vocal sound. Another winning
track.
Track 8 Backseat
A strong bass intro closely joined by drums and keyboard before the vocals
blast in. A much more up tempo sound from the band this time, a very catchy
almost dancy track, ending with the echoing vocals and drum beats and an incredibly
high vocal range.
Track 9 Blood
The heartbeat sound is back for the intro of this track gradually getting
louder and joined by some nice echoing guitars before a great twangy guitar
sound is introduced. Nice soft vocals that are quite reminiscent of ‘Enya’.
A very soft song with great use of instruments and electronic sounds before
the tempo is raised considerably with guitars and drums hailing down in beautiful
harmony as the vocals bury themselves deep inside your head. All the sounds
then slowly fade to a soft guitar piece to finish. Luv it !
Track 10 Ink Star Skin
The high pitched haunting vocals are back for this track with some great instrumental
use once again with loads of electronic beats and gentle drum beats. Very
ambient and mellow. . It finishes with some nice strings and great drum beats
to accompany the floaty vocals. A strong song that stays in your head for
a long time after it has stopped bouncing around the speakers
Track 11 Leaving BC
This track is over 9 minutes long and starts with a great vocal and piano
intro with quiet drum beats and echoing guitars. As it pops from one speaker
to another the instruments keep stopping, as if to make a point, and all you
hear are the pure vocals before they come back in. The tempo is ever changing
with the instruments coming in and out and sounding different every time they
change before suddenly they crash back down at full volume 3 minutes into
the track. The drums are being hammered and the guitars are blasting, this
is a great sound, no vocals here, just pure music before the popping gentle
sounds suddenly comes back into play but the transition is so smooth you don’t
notice the sudden drop in tempo. After 2 minutes of instrumentals the vocals
decide to join in again with her gentle voice almost sweeping over you making
you want to close your eyes and float away. The tempo is slightly raised again
towards the end of the track building up to the heavier sound that was displayed
in the mid section, the vocals have disappeared again as it gently slows down
to the electronic beat sound with the keyboards and ends in a very mellow
keyboard and gentle drum. A sure winner.
Track 12 Sad Sin
A very short track to end with electronic sounds and a quiet gentle vocal,
it is almost like standing by the sea as the noises surround you through the
speakers. A great end.
