Six piece New Yorkers ‘Ra Ra Riot’ blew me away, we hadn’t really heard much about them prior to today as they have only played two London shows before which were back in April. Their front man Wesley Miles stated this is their first UK festival and they were very happy to be here, we have to say that we were very happy for them to be here too, from what we heard on stage it will be their first of many UK festivals. |
They have a fantastic stage presence and you can tell by the looks on their faces that they are truly enjoying this experience as they dance around the stage. They have a unique gift of managing to blend the sound of six different musical instruments on stage to form an incredible sound. From the almost haunting sounds of the violin and cello backed up by thumping drums and some crazy guitars, they have you hooked right from the start. They really do have an amazing eclectic sound that would appeal to almost anyone, regardless of their usual taste in music.. |
Even though they have a relatively early slot of the second stage on Friday they still managed to pull a good sized crown and this increased somewhat as soon as they started their set as all the people passing by on their way to the different stages decided to stop and watch the show. Lead singer Wesley Miles has an amazingly tuneful voice and is able to hit some very high notes. These guys are fantastic at what they do and every member of the band puts 110% into their performance.

After the tragic loss of the original drummer John Pike early last month, due to a tragic accident, the stand in drummer Michael Ashley did a fantastic job and they all deserve major respect for carrying on and delivering one of the best performances of the day. After their Guilfest performance they are embarking on a 10-day tour of the UK and we would highly recommend seeing the band at one of their shows. If you can’t get to catch them live you should defiantly get hold of a copy of their cd. This is one band that are destined to do very well over here and we are sure to be seeing and hearing much more of them in the coming months and years.
