Set Your Goals Release New Album
‘This Will Be The Death Of Us’ 20th July

Pop-Punk’s Hottest Band Play Reading and Leeds Festival and London’s newly re-launched venue Relentless Garage

Bay Area pop-punk band Set Your Goals will release their widely anticipated new album “This Will Be The Death Of Us” on July 20th via Epitaph Records. Produced by Mike Green (Paramore, The Matches), the album features twelve relentless tracks of balls-to-the-wall, infectious non-stop pop-punk.

Successfully overcoming the difficult second album syndrome, Set Your Goals come out guns-a-blazing on “This Will Be The Death Of Us”, the follow-up to their breakthrough debut “Mutiny”. From the galloping drum beat and the ripping riffs of the title track, which features guest vocals from Vinnie Caruana from I Am the Avalanche, to the soaring choruses of the catchy sing-along “Look Closer“ and the blazing punk rock track “The Fallen,” which showcases duel vocalists Matt Wilson and Jordan Brown’s flawless delivery as they trade off singing duties, “This Will Be The Death Of Us” is set to be the punk rock album of 2009.

While “This Will Be The Death Of Us” has the definitive Set Your Goals sound, they aren’t afraid to keep it fresh and try new things. “Gaia Bleeds (make way for man)” takes things to a whole new level with Audelio Flores and Dan Coddaire’s Motorhead-esque riffs and Mike Ambrose’s tightly knit blast beats over gang vocals, and the soon to be fan favourite “The Few That Remain,” an insanely addictive song that features longtime Set Your Goals fan Haley Williams of Paramore adding some gutsy vocals. The band finishes off the album with the 90’s skate punk influenced “Our Ethos: A Legacy To Pass On,” featuring spitfire, fist-pumping guest vocals from New Found Glory’s Chad Gilbert.

This may only be the band’s second album, but you wouldn’t know it. Set Your Goals has already proven their longevity and dedication to the music through relentless touring and their classic punk debut Mutiny, and with the release of “This Will Be The Death Of Us” it further cements them as one of the pop-punk greats. Catch the band this summer as they follow up their successful 2008 appearances at Give It A Name (Kerrang! – these Californians go down like free candy) with highly anticipated performances at Reading and Leeds Festival and London’s newly relaunched venue the Relentless Garage!

THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM WRAP UP AN INCREDIBLE WEEKEND AT BOTH GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL AND HARD ROCK CALLING!

BAND JOINED BY BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN ON STAGE AT BOTH EVENTS!

‘THE 59 SOUND’ SINGLE OUT TODAY ON SIDEONEDUMMY RECORDS

“This band could be born to run and run ****” - The Guardian

“Simply one of the most inspirational rock shows we've seen all year” - NME

"They have the ability to conjure both feelings of joyous celebration and powerful pangs of nostalgic yearning that hit deep in your gut and send chills racing across your back” KKKKK -Kerrang!

New Jersey’s favourite sons The Gaslight Anthem experienced an astonishing patronage this weekend from legendary neighbour Bruce Springsteen when he joined the band onstage at both Glastonbury and the Hard Rock Calling event in London’s Hyde Park this weekend. Springsteen joined the band on guitar and vocals for a storming version of their new single ‘The 59 Sound’ and provided one of the real highlights of both festivals.

To return the favour, Gaslight Anthem’s frontman Brian Fallon also joined Bruce Springsteen at both events for the song ‘No Surrender’ to prove their mutual respect and provided yet another classic festival moment.

“Bruce just turned up backstage yesterday,” explains Fallon talking to Absolute Radio. “He asked if he could play with us and today he said ‘Hey, I’m going to play with you’. I guess God likes me a little!”

“I’m amazed how gracious he is,” he continues. “You’re aware of his presence, his stature, the history he has and his legacy, but you get the sense he’s encouraging us, like an older brother would be. We’re carrying on in the traditionalism of rock n roll and you could tell he is super supportive of that and that means the world to us. The fact that he’d join us to play makes us the ‘beautiful loser’ as they say. The underdog triumphs!”

Today also sees the single release of the title-track from last year’s critically-acclaimed album – ‘The ’59 Sound’ on Sideonedummy Records.

The single is available via download, as well as in 7” and CD versions.  The B-sides include Gaslight’s brilliant cover version of ‘State of Love and Trust’ by Pearl Jam and ‘We Came to Dance’ off the band’s first full-length SINK OR SWIM.

The Gaslight Anthem will bring their explosive live performance to the following shows and festivals in the UK and Europe this summer:

NEBULA

HEAVY PSYCH

RELEASED AUGUST 3RD

(Tee Pee Records)

www.nebulamusic.com | www.teepeerecords.com

L.A. power trio Nebula, whose cosmic cocktail of heavy riffs, electric blues and psychedelic space rock has earned the band international (and, dare we say, universal) acclaim have returned to Tee Pee Records and will release Heavy Psych on August 3rd. Nebula released their first album on Tee Pee in 1998 titled Let It Burn. Let It Burn is being reissued on vinyl later this year and will be released as a limited edition double LP, the first LP containing the original Let It Burn album plus two bonus tracks and a second LP will contain the original demos from the Let It Burn sessions.

The great swirling, electrical ball of dynamism and potential known as Nebula formed in the mythical abyss of Los Angeles in 1997. In its current incarnation the band is comprised of Eddie Glass (Guitar/Vocals), Rob Oswald (Drums) and Tom Davies (Bass/Vocals).

Nebula creates pure guitar-driven, conscious expanding rock for the 21st century and Heavy Psych has everything you could want and need to start the ceremony. They are a culmination of their rock forbearers such as Jimi Hendrix, MC5, The Stooges and Mudhoney turned up a notch, taken to the next level and blasting through space. Nebula spread their gospel through their music and what they are preaching will leave the congregation on the floor.

Combining the combustibility of the sun with the mysticism of the moon, Heavy Psych lives up to its name, no matter your preferred definition, and reaffirms Nebula’s reputation as one of rock's brightest stars – in this galaxy or any other.

 SERGEANT
SINGLE ‘COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS’
RELEASED 27 JULY 2009

‘Everything that is inspiring and uplifting about great pop’ - Sunday Times Culture
‘the most perfect pop anthem we can imagine being penned’- NME
‘Anthem Of The Summer’ – Guardian Guide
‘Stunning’ – Clash Magazine
‘Absolute class’ – The Sun

Fife’s favourite sons Sergeant are back with the 1st single to be released on their own label ‘Shy Recordings’. Making a bold choice that embodies the true spirit of 'indie' music, Sergeant have rebelled against the confines of a major label existence, choosing instead to set up their own label. Inspired by the artists and attitude of seminal Scottish 1980s label Postcard Records (Orange Juice, Aztec Camera), Sergeant have also taken the very 21st century step of securing significant investment from a music fund to launch their label.  Now in control of every aspect of their music, and with 3 sold out releases to date- ‘K-Ok’, Scottish limited release ‘Swings & Roundabouts EP’ and ‘Swiftly Does It’ -the Glenrothes foursome return full of vigour with one of the stand-out tracks from their live show.

‘Counting Down The Days’ comes from their as-yet-untitled debut album, recorded at Rockfield, Rak and Abbey Road studios with legendary producer John Leckie (Stone Roses, Radiohead, The Verve).  Having toured with the likes of Supergrass, The Fratellis and Oasis- at the request of Noel Gallagher they were sole support on the recent Scottish Arena tour- the band went on to woo crowds with headline shows across their native Scotland, selling out 1000+ capacity venues in the process and gathering widespread rave reviews along the way.

Alan McGee heralded the band as the ‘saviours of Scottish music’ in his Guardian Blog, and in summer 2009 Sergeant plan to bring their brand of jangly, pop-salvation south of the border too.

Counting Down The Days is released 27th July on Shy Recordings with an album in the Autumn.

ALBERTA CROSS - DEBUT ALBUM ‘BROKEN SIDE OF TIME’ SEPTEMBER 21st

SUPPORT TO NEIL YOUNG, GLASTONBURY SET AND OTHER DATES ANNOUNCED

Petter Ericson Stakee - vox, guitar

Terry Wolfers - bass, vox

Sam Kearney - guitar

Austin Beede - drums

Alec Higgins – keys

www.myspace.com/albertacross

Recorded in Austin, Texas and mixed in NYC by Andy Wallace’s right-hand man John O’Mahony (Depeche Mode, Coldplay, Kasabian,), Alberta Cross are poised to release their debut album on Ark Recordings and return to the UK later this month.

‘Broken Side Of Time’ took root in an April 2008 jam session when, with the aid of a little drink and a little smoke, the five-piece started jamming on a group of guitarist and vocalist Petter Ericson Stakee’s new songs with immediate and breathtaking results. “I remember thinking that night, this is going to be insane,” recalls Stakee.

While the band’s well-received 2007 EP ‘The Thief & The Heartbreaker’ was a modest, folk-minded, acoustic based disc that garnered glowing reviews, for principal song-writers Stakee and bassist Terry Wolfers, it was a baby step. ‘Broken Side Of Time’, however, is giant stride ahead. Grand in volume and vast in vision, it’s an inspired set of electric songs that finds the intersection of The Verve, My Morning Jacket and Neil Young (with or without Crazy Horse). “We’re trying to give people truly soulful music, which is hopefully inspirational, admits Stakee. “I want to ease their minds and give them a little break from reality.”

A taster from the album, the glorious rush of ‘ATX’, can be found on the bands myspace at: www.myspace.com/albertacross

Fresh from appearances at Coachella, Bonaroo and SXSW the band are confirmed to support Neil Young at the Hard Rock Calling event in Hyde Park on June 27th as well as two highly-anticipated sets at this year’s Glastonbury festival on the 28th (2pm on the Park Stage and 6:30pm on the Dirty Boots stage). Release debut DVD ‘Live At Brixton Academy’ on June 15th on Warner Bros. Records / Ear Storm

www.pendulum.com

“One of the most enthusiastic reactions afforded a main stage act in Big Day Out history. Phenomenal doesn’t even come close” – Kerrang!, Big Day Out live review, January 2009

“Right throughout the summer they’ve been killing the crowds, they’ve just got it right. The right band for the right times.” – Zane Lowe

One of the defining highlights of last summer’s festival circuit, Pendulum completed 2008 with a sold-out tour that saw them play to a combined audience of over 50,000 people. Now Pendulum can confirm the June 15th release of their ‘Live At Brixton Academy’ DVD that offers an irresistible monument for fans eager to relive the glorious chaos of the Pendulum live experience.

Recorded at Brixton Academy on December 4th and 5th 2008, the DVD highlights a full live set directed by Paul Caslin. Caslin was recently nominated for a Grammy in the Long Form Music Video category for his work on Rihanna’s ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ DVD release. An added feature in the shape of an eighty minute audio CD of the Brixton gigs makes for an essential purchase for Pendulum’s devoted and ever growing fan base.

‘Live At Brixton Academy’ features scintillating performances of Pendulum’s biggest hits and killer tracks to date including ‘Showdown’, ‘Propane Nightmares’, ‘Granite’, ‘Slam’ and ‘Another Planet’. The DVD also features Pendulum’s explosive interpretation of The Prodigy’s 1994 cult hit ‘Voodoo People’ and their incendiary take on the Metallica classic ‘Master of Puppets’.

Aside from the standard DVD / CD release, ‘Live At Brixton Academy’ will be also be available as a single DVD / deluxe double CD package that will be sold exclusively through www.pendulum.com as well as an iTunes exclusive format. Further details of both the deluxe version and the iTunes format of ‘Live At Brixton’ will be announced imminently.

In the UK, Pendulum’s ‘In Silico’ album debuted at #2 in the album charts, has since reached double Gold status and is fast approaching Platinum. Their single ‘Propane Nightmares’ hit the Top 10 and was nominated for a Kerrang! Award for Best Single. Backed by a number of the summer’s most memorable festival appearances, including Creamfields, Download, Reading / Leeds and T in the Park, Pendulum have become a vital live act – aptly demonstrated by how their gigs have continually moved onto bigger venues on each successive tour. Continuing support from Radio 1 included a special Pendulum documentary that ran over Christmas.

Pendulum are also repeating their phenomenal success on the other side of the Atlantic. Appearances on Carson Daly and Jimmy Kimmel relived the growing demand for their live shows created by the contagious reaction to their headline tours and a set at last year’s Coachella. They were also the hot name at this year’s Miami’s Ultra Music Festival where they headlined alongside The Prodigy and Bloc Party.

Now Pendulum are set to be the band of the summer. Having proven to be too big for the tents at last summer’s festivals as huge audiences flocked to catch them in action, Pendulum have been elevated to the main stage for this year’s dates at Download (where they’re due to play ahead of Marilyn Manson), V, T In The Park, Isle of Wight and Oxegen. Growing demand for the band has been rewarded with the confirmation that they will headline their first major UK festival at Global Gathering in July.

NEW FOUND GLORY announce August UK tour, including a main stage appearance at Reading and Leeds festivals and at Pukkelpop in Belgium

Following on from their recent two exclusive and sold out UK dates  (June 2009), NEW FOUND GLORY are pleased to announce a further run of UK headline dates which will also include a main stage performance at this year’s Reading and Leeds festivals.

Having only just released their excellent new, Mark Hoppus produced (Motion City Soundtrack, The Matches) and Neil Avron mixed (Fall Out Boy) album Not Without A Fight earlier this year on new label Epitaph (making the US billboard chart top fifteen in the process), the band make it over for the 3rd time to the UK in under 10 months due to the live demand.

In anticipation of the release, NEW FOUND GLORY originally kicked off Fight on January 6th with an online video game and a weigh-in press conference that were followed by – in true NFG fashion – hysterically funny training videos launching each week beginning January 22nd that ultimately lead up to the main event:  the music video for their first single ‘Listen To Your Friends’, which can be viewed here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mvj6Pn47s0s

Even though all the guys are still in their twenties, NEW FOUND GLORY have been slugging it out for over a decade alongside bands like Green Day and Blink 182, becoming one of the most celebrated pop-punk bands in the world.  Known for their trademark humor and fun loving attitude, the band’s latest effort will bring smiles to fans’ faces once again. The band’s ability to consistently produce pop-punk favorites, album after album, has made New Found Glory a household name worldwide and Not Without A Fight raises the bar.

Full list of August UK and Euro dates are:

Fri 21 Belgium, Pukkelpop Festival (main stage)

Sat 22 UK, London Garage

Sun 23 UK, Manchester Club Academy
Mon 24 UK, Newcastle Academy 2
Tue 25 UK, Glasgow, Garage
Thu 27 UK, Birmingham Academy 2

***You Me At Six, Trans - Global Underground, Hundred Reasons, Jersey Budd & Florence Rawlings added to GuilFest 2009 line up***

You Me At Six have been confirmed as headline act on the Rocksound Cave on Friday 10th July. It’s been a whirlwind for this Surrey based young pop punk quintet since they formed in Weybridge in 2005. They have already won two Kerrang! Nominations and supported a host of hot rock acts, from Fightstar to New Found Glory, The Audition, Angels & Airwaves and Fall Out Boy before headlining numerous tours of their own. In November 2007 they signed an album deal with UK Indie label Slam Dunk Records, and their debut album, Take Off Your Colours, went straight in at number 25 in the UK Charts in October 2008.  You Me At Six, who recently signed to Epitaph Records in the US, really are the British band of the moment and organisers are delighted to have such talent performing at GuilFest this year!

World music genre defining Trans-Global Underground have been confirmed for the Main Stage at GuilFest on Saturday 11th July.  Formed in 1991, when a group of disenchanted misfits from various corners of the dance, indie, bhangra, and Arabic scenes in London begin congregating in and around the offices of Nation Records in Ladbroke Grove, Trans - Global Underground have since toured festivals and venues all over the world, including locations as diverse as Egypt, Tunisia, Singapore and Australia – The band even opened the 2000 Sydney Olympics!  Expect world music influence from just about anywhere you can think of; their set is guaranteed to take you on a musical journey that spans the entire globe.

Hundred Reasons are confirmed to headline the Rocksound Cave on Saturday 11th July.  Hailing from Surrey, Hundred Reasons have sold in excess of a quarter of a million albums and scored six top 40 UK Hit singles from their four studio albums released since the band’s inception in 2000.  Hundred Reasons, who have toured extensively round the world and won three Kerrang! awards to date, are set to bring the house down with their powerful live set on Saturday night in the Rock Sound Cave.

Jersey Budd is welcomed to the Ents24 stage on Saturday 11th July.  Aside from his expressive, powerful voice and knack for a good melody, it’s Jersey’s unique take on rock history that makes his music so compelling. On ‘Shotgun Times’ he updates southern rock with contemporary string and horn arrangements, while ‘She Came Back’ shimmers with the 60’s finest harmonies, featuring the same handclaps and ‘Sha-La-Las’ that punctuated The Hollies’ finest moments.  Gifted yet grounded, Jersey Budd is a working class hero in the making, matching Lennon’s looks with The Boss’ penchant for the epic. We’re sure that his voice, songs and most importantly his lust for life, will make welcome additions to 2009’s musical landscape.

Soul singer Florence Rawlings will be entertaining crowds on the Main Stage on Saturday 11th July. The latest signing to Mike Batt’s Dramatico Records (Katie Melua, Marianne Faithfull, Carla Bruni), this 20 year-old Londoner is set to become a household name with her impressive mix of authentic soul, raw grooves and rhythm & blues.  Florence first impressed Mike Batt at the age of just thirteen when she performed at his house after hearing he was looking for female singers to sign to his label Dramatico. Two of the young singing applicants stood out to Batt immediately, one being a certain Katie Melua and the other Florence Rawlings. With Florence still so young, it was agreed that she should concentrate on school and finish her studies. Even then, whilst the majority of young teenagers were just being introduced to the real world, Florence sang with a heart and core that suggested she knew it inside out.

These 5 new acts join an enormous line up, that has been announced over the last few weeks.  There are still plenty more acts to be announced however -  More emerging talent will grace the two Live Club Stages for unsigned bands, with over 40 of the best raw and up and coming groups vying for the audience’s attention over the weekend. Tons of other attractions are on offer, including a massive 150 foot long bar, a huge variety of food stalls, Farmer Giles Barn Dance, The brand new 70s disco, The Rock Disco, The Acoustic tent, the eFestivals Comedy Stage, The Funky End Stage and loads more.

GuilFest 2009 looks set to become the most successful to date and tickets are selling very fast from Ticket Hotline: 0871 4240050 or via our website: http://www.guilfest.co.uk

CHTHONIC - ‘MIRROR OF RETRIBUTION’
Taiwanese Extreme Metallers confirm new studio album for August 10th release via Spinefarm Records UK…

TAIWAN IS a country where history and folklore work very much hand in hand, and both of these elements are central to the latest studio album from that country’s premier metal outfit, Chthonic (pronounced ‘Thonic’).

Formed in 1995, five-piece set-up Chthonic (a name deriving from a Greek word signifying spirits of the underworld) have delivered an 11-track body of work that touches on both the spirit and mortal worlds, with
loss of national identity and the sometimes turbulent history of their homeland recurring themes.

With Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano at the production & mixing helm, ‘Mirror Of Retribution’ sees the award-winning musicians further developing a style that started with the ’99 album ‘Where The Ancestors’ Souls Gathered’, blending full-on metal of the darker persuasion with traditional Taiwanese instruments such as two-string violin, the hena.

“The story behind this album combines true historical fact with an ancient myth of hell,” explains bassist and band spokesperson Doris Yeh. “Amongst other things, we make reference to the famous ‘228 Massacre’, which was the biggest ever massacre in Taiwanese history. Tens of thousands of Taiwanese were killed by the Chinese army. The final battle of the event occurred in the middle of Taiwan, where 40 local militia attempted to resist 2,500 soldiers from the Chinese army. In the end, the militia lost their lives near the Sing-Ling Temple.

“Musically, we tried to move the band to a whole new level,” continues Doris. “In the past, we’ve been described in various ways, as ‘symphonic black metal’ or ‘melodic death’, the word ‘folk’ has also been applied at times, but this was our chance to establish a new place for ourselves in the extreme metal genre…”

Never ones to shy away from a just cause, Chthonic – in particular frontman Freddy Lim – have been consistently active on the political front at home, whilst away from their hometown of Taipei they have appeared at the Wacken Festival in Germany and toured as part of the Ozzfest in the US, the first Asian extreme metal band to make such a mark.

BIZARRE LIVE!

***BIZARRE LIVE CLUB NIGHTS LAUNCHED JULY 23RD @ PURPLE TURTLE & SECOND BIZARRE BALL CONFIRMED OCTOBER 17TH @ SeOne CLUB LONDON***

Following the spectacularly successful, totally sold out debut Bizarre Ball in October 2008, the world’s biggest alternative culture publication, Bizarre Magazine, now announces a series of Bizarre LIVE! Club nights. And the second Bizarre Ball, the biggest and best celebration of alternative life and culture ever seen in the UK, is confirmed for October 17th 2009 at SeOne Club, London Bridge, SE1 3QX.

Bizarre LIVE! events, a series of shows, will be taking place across the country. Like the Bizarre Ball, where the audience’s participation is as much of a spectacle as the onstage shows, Bizarre LIVE! gigs are more like parties, with various ‘Bizarre’ characters appearing onstage and in the audience, contributing to a unique ‘Bizarre community’ vibe, with the added bonus of a bunch of foot-stomping live bands to watch in between!

Bizarre LIVE! kicks off on July 23rd @ The Purple Turtle in Camden. Headlining the show are one of Bizarre’s favourite live acts, the magnificent MALEFICENT. The London-based freaks are led by Maleficent Martini and Mortimer Cain, whose agonising double vocals feel like a frenetic battle between the powers of good and evil, set to a backdrop of synth-driven industrial, progressive metal and sleazy rock’n’roll. Opening the show will be one-man electronic nutjob KID CARPET, who says his music is “a bit like punk, a bit like disco and sorta like hip-hop, but I do it all with kids’ plastic toys, telephones, keyboards, Furbys, and anything else that makes a noise”. The show will also feature two star turns from the delectable MISSY MALONE, one of the most popular performers at the first Bizarre Ball in 2008. And, as if that wasn’t enough, the whole shebang will be presented by BIZARRE’S ALIX FOX, with a guest appearance by the EVIL DR BLACKTHORN. Tickets, priced £10.00, (plus £1 booking fee) are available now from bizarremag.com/live

The Second Bizarre Ball, on October 17th at SeOne Club, promises even more madness than last year. New this year - a ‘STEAMPUNK’ room, with a retrofuturistic Victoriana meets industrial theme and an expanded ‘DOMINATION CORNER’. LUCHA BRITANNIA, with their unique mix of British and Mexican Lucha Libre high flying wrestling, are back on board, as are the ‘awe-inspiring, jaw dropping, horrific and terrific’ CIRCUS OF HORRORS. There will be a host of gorgeous burlesque dancers, terrifying freaks, titillating exotic erotic girls, gruesome cabaret artists and strange illusionists. But, most important of all is the audience – a glittering array of Mad Max extras, military men, dominatrices, monster mashers, psycho doctors, debauched metallers, corseted beauties, and numerous Bizarre Ultra Vixens and Vipers. Tickets, priced £23 (early bird) and £28 are available via bizarremag.com/bizarreball Join bizarremag.com/yourbizarre for instant updates and communication. More details as we get ‘em.

ENGINEERS

LONG AWAITED SECOND ALBUM

‘THREE FACT FADER’ RELEASED JULY 6TH

(Kscope Records)

Engineers are back! Four years after the release of their landmark debut, the band return with their epic second album, Three Fact Fader, which is released by Kscope on July 6th. The 13-track album was produced by the band along with Ken Thomas (Sigur Rós, M83, Maps) over a period of two years and comes packaged in stunning artwork by legendary music photographer Tom Sheehan. Single ‘Clean Coloured Wire’ is due for release on July 20th and the band will be playing their first live show for two years at Bush Hall in London on Friday, July 10.

Engineers are not like any other band. Onstage Simon Phipps is the singer, Dan Macbean is the guitarist, Mark Peters is the bassist and Sweeney is the drummer, but the real clue is in their name: they approach their music like engineers, carefully constructing wonderful walls of sound.

Following the rapturous reception that greeted their mini-album ‘Folly’ in 2004 and debut ‘Engineers’ the following year, it’s taken them a long time to build the epic that is ‘Three Fact Fader’. After initial recording sessions with producer Ken Thomas, Engineers became unwitting victims of record company restructuring and the album was left in limbo, unfinished until the band reconvened earlier this year, largely motivated by public support. “We seem to appeal to people in a really deep way – people tell us our music has helped them through intense times in their lives,” explains Mark Peters. “This is why it was so important to get the album released, it means so much more than the peripheral aspects of releasing records.”

It’s not just lyrically that Engineers have a deep emotional resonance; the music itself has an overwhelming sense of purity and beauty that you can completely immerse yourself in. It was this tendency towards epic soundscapes that saw Engineers lumped in with the nascent shoegaze revival when they first appeared; now that the scene that celebrates itself has gone overground with the reformation of My Bloody Valentine and high-profile compilations from Rob Da Bank and revivalist label Sonic Cathedral, it seems as if Engineers have timed their return perfectly. “It pleases me to see shoegaze finally being accepted as a genre rather than something to poke fun at,” says Mark. “I do see links with our music, some of which are intentional and some of which aren’t, but there’s a lot more besides. The best music taps into the enigma of the human condition and thinking too much about trivialities such as genres tends to put the mockers on creativity.”

There were clearly no such constraints on Engineerscreativity while they were making ‘Three Fact Fader’, which takes the influences of the debut and expands on them, resulting in a much bigger, bolder record. ‘Song For Andy’ could be one of those previously unreleased Dennis Wilson tracks that cropped up on the Pacific Ocean Blue reissue. The Fear Has Gone begins with ambient drones and neo-classical strings reminiscent of Austin, Texas minimalist duo Stars Of The Lid. The heavenly harmonies of Be What You Are would sit comfortably on David Crosby’s solo debut If I Could Only Remember My Name. What Pushed Us Together has a similar sunshine psychedelia feel to Panda Bear’s Person Pitch.

However, perhaps the biggest development is in the use of rhythm. Both Sometimes I Realise and Hang Your Head have a pounding, dancefloor-friendly quality, while both the title track and opener Clean Coloured Wire combine woozy, My Bloody Valentine style melodies with a sense of propulsion purloined from krautrock

Literally in the case of the latter, which is based around a sample from Harmonia’s Watussi, which is so effectively employed that Michael Rother himself claims the song gives him goosebumps. So, thanks to one of the forefathers of German experimental music and the persuasive powers of the record buying public, Engineers

are once again hard at work, building their ever more impressive sonic architecture. “We felt a massive rush from knowing that ‘Three Fact Fader’ would finally be presented as we wanted it to be,” concludes Mark. “Now, playing live is top of the list of our priorities and we’ve started to get some new ideas together. Don’t expect such a long gap between records next time...”

VERY SPECIAL NME / RADIO ONE STAGE HEADLINER ANNOUNCED

We said that Reading and Leeds would have the odd surprise left for you despite presenting the best festival line-up of 2009 and they don’t come much bigger than this one.

Promoters Festival Republic are proud to announce that the headline act on the NME /Radio One Stage at The Reading Festival on Friday 28th August and The Leeds Festival on Sunday 30th August will be none other than FAITH NO MORE.

The US legends guarantee an amazing moment at both sites in the tent and be sure to turn up early to ensure you get to see these very special shows.

Faith No More are without doubt one of the most important bands in the history of rock. Following underground success with 1987’s ‘Introduce Yourself’ and single ‘We Care A Lot’, the recruitment of Mike Patton on vocals and subsequent album ‘The Real Thing’ took the band global. Lead single ‘Epic’ became a worldwide hit and the band became household names. Through to 1998 and albums, ‘Angel Dust’, ‘King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime’ and ‘Album Of The Year’, Faith No More were a massive live draw and an A list name in rock circles. Their disbandment in 1998 was a sad moment for fans worldwide but their reformation this year and now these shows are sure to put smiles on not just those faces but the faces of everyone at the twin sites over the weekend.

“DONE WITH EVERYTHING, DIE FOR NOTHING”, a track from Children Of Bodom’s latest studio album ‘Blooddrunk’, is confirmed to feature in Activision’s Guitar Hero 5, released this Autumn.

Guitar Hero is the most popular music-based video game in the world, and COB’s inclusion will turn an even brighter spotlight onto the truly ferocious skills of award-winning guitarist Alexi Laiho – named Best Metal Guitarist Of The Year in US magazine Guitar World’s 2009 Reader’s Poll. Alexi, who has a popular signature model with ESP, is also a past winner of the 'Dimebag Darrell Shredder Award' at the annual Metal Hammer Golden Gods event.

Children Of Bodom will be releasing a new album, ‘Skeletons In The Closet’, through Spinefarm Records
in September of this year. A collection of cover versions (some already available, others brand new recordings), this particular outing will be preceded by a new solo album from COB keyboard player Janne Warman.

Titled ‘Japanese Hospitality’ and on the Spinefarm Records UK schedule for August 24th, this 10-track release
is Warman’s fourth solo effort, and features a number of special guests, including Alexi Laiho and former Thunderstone vocalist Pasi Rantanen, who fronts the lead single, a cover of the Journey classic “Separate Ways”.

A ‘Best Of’ compilation rounding up tracks from the previous Warman albums will also be made available through Spinefarm on August 24th.

The title track from COB’s 2005 album, ‘Are You Dead Yet?’, has already been featured in Rock Band 2.

Green Day

New single ‘21 Guns’ available for download from July 13th on Reprise Records

"There's a hugely imposing certainty about the album's sound and songwriting... the main currency of 21st Century Breakdown is king-sized stadium rock" - The Guardian
"Deft, epic, versatile and thrilling" - Kerrang!
"The voice of a disenfranchised mainstream, presented for prime-time consumption" – Metro
"Tight, flashy and full of gnashing pop hits" – NME
“Green Day’s greatest accomplishment is the manner in which they’ve constructed a supremely cohesive whole out of such seemingly disparate parts. The characters, themes and motifs that recur throughout 21st Century Breakdown are marshalled into an engrossing narrative that recalls both Bruce Springsteen and novelist Chuck Palahniuk” – Observer Music Monthly
"Another perfect document of our times" – Q

-       Despite being available for just three days of the chart week, Green Day’s new album ‘21st Century Breakdown’ debuted at #1 with UK sales of 90,000.

-       The album accumulated another 70,000 sales in its first full week of release.

-      ‘21st Century Breakdown’ has also proved to be a true global phenomenon. It has already topped the charts in 22 countries including USA, Germany, France, Japan and Canada.

-      Green Day return to the UK this October for their first full tour since early 2005. Commencing in Glasgow on October 19th, the tour includes three dates in London (two at the O2 and another at Wembley Arena) and shows in Sheffield, Birmingham and Manchester.

Singer Ty Vaughn said “Be All That You Can't Be is inspired by the fact that everyday in the public schools in the US , there are military recruiters walking the halls. They single out the poor kids, or the kids that can't get a scholarship and tell them that the military is their only option. I think it's dangerous and irresponsible.” The b-side is a track exclusive to this release entitled “The Call Out”.

February 09 saw Broadway Calls – singer Ty Vaughn,  bassist Matt Koenig and drummer
Josh Baird  - open for
Alkaline Trio on a string of dates throughout the UK and they now look forward to touring as part of the Warped tour throughout the U.S for the second time.  They have also just been announced as support on the Offspring European tour, which includes two dates in the UK- London Brixton Academy and Manchester Academy - as well as playing the NME stage at the Reading and Leeds festivals.

04/06/2009 DAKOTA RELEASE DEBUT SINGLE OWILD CHILD¹ ON 13 JULY 2009

Heavily-tipped to be the pop act of 2009, Leamington Spa four-piece DAKOTA
will follow the success of their recent free download with the release of
their debut single OWild Child¹ on 13 July 2009 through Genuine Records and
Right Track Distribution/Universal Music. As if by design, Dakota¹s
euphonious slice of self-styled ponce rock is immaculately timed for the
start of Pimms season and is odds on to become the feel good hit of the
summer.  An almost unlawfully addictive chorus is combined with unashamedly
indulgent timpani drums and then juxtaposed against a slightly sinister
character assessment of an old flame courtesy of singer and chief songsmith
Ben Talbot.

OWild Child¹ is the first release from Dakota¹s debut album, OHere, There
and Everywhere¹ which is set for release in the autumn.  A heavy contender
for topping the album charts and joining the illustrious gang of Number 1
debutants, HT&E was borne out of a broken heart and Ben¹s struggles to come
to terms with the realities of heartache. With such perfectly formed pieces
of pop mastery, Keane, The Feeling, Scouting For Girls et al had better
watch their backs.

Already picking up daytime airplay OWild ChildO got it¹s debut outing on
Steve Wright¹s afternoon show on BBC Radio 2 on Monday following a storming
set at Wychwood Festival on Sunday.  Rockers Red Light Company were out in
force to check out the competition when Dakota mounted the stageS and it has
to be said Dakota blew the crowd away. Other bands performing over the
weekend at Wychwood included Supergrass, Super Furry Animals and Little
Boots among others. To listen again to Dakota as featured on Steve Wright¹s
show this week click here http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00kr4n4

Brigada Mercy release their new Double A Side 'Recovering Catholic / Roto Chico' via 3 Minutes of Madness.

Roto Chico’ is so infectious it’s going to take more than a mouth mask and a shot in the arm to prevent you becoming smitten.’

Is This Music

The band was formed by Don Wilson from the ashes of his previous band The Yorkshire Rats, a punk band from the heart of the former Yorkshire coal fields.

The first single from the band ‘Roto Chico’ was received with open arms from the media and the current single ‘Recovering Catholic’ has already been playlisted on BBC6 by Tom Robinson. Like many a good song with a story, Roto Chico [Broken Man], is a parable about hurt and blame. Rico is a man on the brink, full of hatred for a world that he blames for his failures, but in an impassioned vocal performance Don Wilson calls it just how he sees it.  Rico can go on blaming everyone and everything else, or he can grasp that he might just have screwed it all up for himself.

‘… a creative and sizzling number to divert the plain and boring.’

Music News

‘…the wonky guitars and loping beats are addictive’

Room Thirteen

‘Quirky punk pop with eastern European touches.’

Get Ready to Rock

Brigada Mercy are much more internationalist in flavour. Don  and his fellow members Joe Bailey and Damon Boycott reach out to other marginal communities around the globe not just politically but musically as well.

You will hear the echo of Django ringing right across to the gypsy folk and jazz of Eastern Europe, woven together with the infectious rhythms of Latin America  and the rebel cry of Green Days Billie Joe. Shot through with a punk rock ethic that runs true from Pontefract to Kingston.

THE 69 EYES – Reveal cover artwork and tracklisting
Bam Margera directs video

Sharpen your fangs, The Helsinki Vampires are back. And this time, they’re “Back In Blood”.

The 69 Eyes return with their ninth studio album, which has been hailed a latter-day ‘Appetite For Destruction’. With blood on their hands and AC/DC on their stereo, the bloodsuckers have combined their past to focus on the future. Turning their back on the comic book glam of ‘Angels’, The Eyes have opened a heavier chapter in their musical career. For the first time this decade, honorary sixth vampire Johnny Lee Michaels has been granted temporary leave from the batcave and Matt Hyde (Slayer/Monster Magnet) has been invited over the threshold.

The first single will be the tongue-in-cheek ‘Dead Girls Are Easy’ – a nasty power anthem for sleazy pin-ups complete with a sing-a-long chorus aimed at those online chicks with the looks that kill! The video has been directed by MTV superstar and close friend Bam Margera and the artwork has been designed by Estevan Oriol, whose work has graced countless covers from Cypress Hill to The Transplants and Snoop Dogg.

“Back In Blood” tracklisting:

1. Back In Blood
2. We Own The Night
3. Dead N' Gone
4. The Good, The Bad & The Undead
5. Kiss Me Undead
6. Lips Of Blood
7. Dead Girls Are Easy
8. Night Watch
9. Some Kind Of Magick
10. Hunger
11. Suspiria Snow White
12. Eternal

“Back In Blood” will be released in the UK on August 31st.
