PRESS RELEASES - December 2007
19/12/2007
the undisputed Queen of R&B returns
Mary J Blige

new album ‘Growing Pains’ out Feb 4th
and new single ‘Just Fine’ out Jan 28th

The high priestess of soul is back with another album, ‘Growing Pains’, on February 4th. The lead track from the record will be the hugely infectious smash-in-the-making ‘Just Fine’, which will be released on January 28th.

‘Just Fine’ is a break from the norm for Mary who usually leads a new album release with a ballad. The single is an upbeat, feel good record with the lyrics “no more negative vibes/got my head on straight/I wouldn't change/my life's just fine" and was produced by “Tricky" Stewart (Rihanna ‘Umbrella’) and Jazze Pha (Notorious B.I.G.’s Nasty Girl).

She’s the woman Mya calls "the queen," and Nelly Furtado attributes her music career to. She has proved herself as one of the most important and successful female artists of the last decade selling more than 40 million albums across the world. Most of the details about ‘Growing Pains’ - Mary’s eighth studio album - are still under wraps, but will follow shortly.

Mary J released her last album ‘The Breakthrough’ in December 2005. It debuted at #1 in the US selling 727,000 copies in its first week making Soundscan history. It was the biggest first week sales from an R’n’B female solo artist ever and the album went on to sell over seven million copies worldwide.

Mary was nominated for eight Grammy Awards announced in December 2006 (the most any artist achieved that year) and took home Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song (both for ‘Be Without You’), and Best R&B Album for ‘The Breakthrough’ at the awards ceremony held in February of this year. Mary also won nine Billboard Music Awards, two American Music Awards, two BET Awards, two NAACP Image Awards, and a Soul Train Award in conjunction with ‘The Breakthrough’.

YouthMovies

SINGLE ‘THE NAUGHTIEST GIRL IS A MONITOR’ OUT FEBRUARY 2008 & ALBUM ‘GOOD NATURE’ RELEASED MARCH 2008 ON

DROWNED IN SOUND RECORDS

“Youth Movies are true believers in the power of music - not as a commodity, but as a way of truly stirring the soul. Amazing stuff."
Rocksound

"Like a post-hardcore brainstorming session on where music should go next."
Steve Lamacq

"Like reading a great book that you think has taken five minutes to read and when you look up it's dark... like being taken on a journey through varied and strange places... like the soundtrack to a restful but excited mind."
Artrocker

"Weird, but fucking wonderful"
The Fly

Youthmovies will be releasing their debut full length on Drowned In Sound records in March 2008.

Hailing from Oxford, Youthmovies are a convergence of music styles, often within the same track. They make what could be considered prog-pop, an adventurous blend of the intense time signatures of bands like Cap ’n Jazz, backed with epic orchestrations whilst doing those Radiohead and Battles genre flips. Youthmovies also have a penchant for party bands like Q and Not U & Les Savy Fav, but all the while retaining an element of storytelling that conjures up a myriad of imagery.

Aside from them being one the UK’s most interesting & unpredictable independent bands, they are also one of the most hardworking. Current buzz band Foals, was started by the band's frontman Andrew Mears as a side-project years ago before he left to concentrate on what he loved the most from a creative stance. Members of the band also run Try Harder Records which released the aforementioned Foals debut, as well as singles and albums by the likes of Blood Red Shoes, Redjetson, and more. They’ve all got various side-projects and collaboration bands including Adam Gnade (Honey Slides EP), have done one-off live film soundtracks, been Saul Williams's backing band and thus far released various EPs, vinyl, demo collections and a mini-album.

All of this has allowed them to become a real ‘band’s band’, even influencing ¡Forward Russia! to become what they are today. Whiskas from the band said, “We basically formed out of me & Rob following Youthmovies around the North of England. We spent all the train journeys taking everything in and planning our next move, which would be ¡Forward, Russia!. For a long time a few years ago, Youthmovies were heads above anything happening in the UK - and for me, they still are.”

Good Nature is the sound of five hungry souls realising all their potential in a blinding flourish of compositional extravagance and exemplary musicianship.

Lead single The Naughtiest Girl Is A Monitor will be release February 2008 with the debut full length Good Nature out March 2008 on Drowned In Sound.

NOT ADVISED

DEBUT SINGLE
“‘YOU’RE THE DECIDERS, WE’RE THE DESIGNERS’
out 11TH FEBRUARY 2008

In May 2006, five Southampton teenagers known as NOT ADVISED entered the local heat of the Nokia ‘Rock Up & Play’ competition on a whim…and performed like it was Wembley Stadium. They blew everyone away in a whirlwind of flailing limbs and guitars, and owned the crowd with their epic pop-punk-rock.

“Pop-punk with passion and power”
– BIG CHEESE
“Great tune, Great Band”
- KERRANG! Radio DJ EMMA SCOTT

“Catch them now before they start playing arenas!”
– TOTAL GUITAR
“Fantastic”
- PUNKTASTIC

Having won the heat, they were invited to play the Nokia stage at the Isle of Wight festival, and pulled in a tent-full of dumbfounded rock fans, playing several sets over the weekend. Clearly impressed, the organisers invited them to play at Reading festival; this time the word spread, with T4 requesting an interview, and Alex Zane declaring, "I hate to talk marketing, but this will seriously shift some units!"

Since then, they’ve toured incessantly, building a dedicated and rapidly expanding fan-base around the country and supporting the likes of The Blackout, Kids in Glass Houses, Gallows, The Used, Rise Against, Aiden, Goldfinger, The Enemy, Allister, Zebrahead, Sixth, My Awesome Compilation, Kill The Arcade, and RX Bandits. They love nothing more than being on the road and are heavily DIY in their approach to setting up tours with bands from the same scene.

Last month they won the highly sought-after opening slot to a sell-out crowd in the Portsmouth Guildhall on the illustrious Taste Of Chaos tour, through gaining the most votes in an online poll. Be sure this is just the beginning of a band that are genuinely set to do great things next year.

Their online presence is enviable, with 215,563 total plays, they easily pull 500 plays a day, rising to over 1,000 a day every time they post a new demo!
www.myspace.com/notadvised

To top off an incredible year, the guys signed a production deal with Melodramatic Records and a publishing deal with Warner Chappell, and recently went into The Dairy studios in Brixton to record their awesome forthcoming debut single, ‘You’re The Designers, We’re The Deciders’, with Larry Hibbitt (Hundred Reasons) steering the production and Drew Griffiths (Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Iron Maiden) at the mixing desk.

“You’re the Designers, We’re the Deciders” is out on February 11th.

Combining well-written heavy riffs and grooves with tongue-in-cheek slapstick-comedy song themes, Psychostick has created a style that will either have crowds mosh-pitting one second and doubled over laughing another.

Originating in Texas in 1998 and then moving to Phoenix in 2000, Psychostick has come from being a simple local band to a US hit. The band has been steadily climbing higher and higher in the industry and have captured the attention of many who are curious how far this independent band will go, as well as accumulated a die-hard fan-base that grows every day.

Their recent album release "We Couldn't Think Of A Title" has sold over 30,000 copies since its independent release in the US and its lead single, "Beer!!!", has become a hit on radio stations across the country, beating System of a Down for the #1 position Arizona's Squizz XM chart and remaining there for 7 consecutive weeks. The track has also enjoyed considerable success on the internet, becoming the #1 comedy song on Myspace and Purevolume with over 2.5 million plays and nearly 40,000 digital singles sold.

The albums "We Couldn't Think Of A Title" and "The Flesh Eating Rollerskate Holiday Joyride" are both out now on Rock Ridge Music.

DUFFY

The twist of fate that marks out a favourite son or daughter to rise from the depths of a small seaside community in the North of Wales is hard to fathom. Duffy seems to have been chosen to sing. From her earliest memories, she just knew her destiny. She was going to be a singer.

In August 2004, Duffy came to the attention of Rough Trade’s Jeannette Lee who became both her manager and her mentor. Just as Vicki Wickham guided Dusty Springfield to the best musical collaborations of the day; or Jerry Wexler and Ahmet Ertegun helped Aretha find her true voice in the Muscle Shoals Memphis studio; Rough Trade pointed Duffy in the direction of Bernard Butler in London’s Crouch End.

The fruit of their very first musical session is ‘Rockferry’ which set the tone and musical direction of the album. Duffy spent the next couple years honing and developing her songwriting skills all the while discovering hidden musical gems that inspired her.

The results will be unveiled with her forthcoming album next year but for now we have the single ‘Rockferry’ available to download from November l9th and released as a 2-track 7” vinyl December 3rd on A&M.

The Observer Music Monthly said of ‘Rockferry’ – “it makes the hairs on the back of your neck prickle with it’s bewitching grace”.

Duffy says “There’s a side of me that’s trying to hold it together but then there’s a side of me that just wants to scream, run out onstage and say ‘I’m here!”

Duffy will tour in 2008:
16 January - Pigalle, London (residency)
23 January - Pigalle, London (residency)
30 January - Pigalle, London (residency)
06 February - Pigalle, London (residency)

05/12/2007 MARAH RELEASE

‘ANGELS OF DESTRUCTION!’

JANUARY 8th 2008 through Munich Records

CAT: MRCD287

“In Technicolor Folk Punk, this is an album of themes…Religion, Destruction, Redemption and Joy”. Dave Bielanko

On January 8th, 2008 MARAH will release ‘ANGELS OF DESTRUCTION!’ (cat# MRCD287) through Munich Records. Six records in, MARAH has gained a membership stronger and more vital than they ever dreamt of. With the addition of Christine Smith on piano & keyboards, their remaining core of Adam Garbinski on guitar, Dave "Fire & Ice" Petersen on drums, Kirk Henderson on bass, and Serge Bielanko and his brother Dave on guitars and singing, MARAH feels as if they are a better band, better songwriters, and better people than they have ever been before.

Condensed from 35 tracks to 12, MARAH’s latest release encapsulates the many emotions and experiences that have gone into shaping this latest opus, “Take a man, any man, and give him serious money problems and dysfunctional love affairs and a severe case of questionable faith and set him loose upon this Earth. Soon enough he's going to lash out and maybe even turn to drink. And then, as sure as the sun will rise, he's going to try to fight himself, in lieu of enemies he cannot see. And that's exactly what happened to MARAH, and still is happening.” Dave Bielanko.

Prior to the release of ANGELS OF DESTRUCTION! there will be a digital release EP in November, that includes two tracks from the forthcoming album plus two bonus tracks, one of which is "Rowhouse Row". Also look out for a new Christmas song to be released later this year.

STEPHEN FRETWELL TO RELEASE SINGLE “NOW” FROM ONE OF THE BEST ACCLAIMED ALBUMS OF 2007

“NOW” RELEASED 14TH JANUARY 2008 ON FICTION RECORDS
“MAN ON THE ROOF” LP OUT NOW

In a year when the fairer sex dominated the headlines, Stephen Fretwell has quietly been picking up stellar review after stellar review for his second album “Man on The Roof”. It may not be front page news that a wry-witted, irreverent northern lad has released an exceptional album, but Fretwell has chalked up an impressive wodge of praise for his second solo outing. “Man on The Roof” is a sophisticated, timeless gem; a diamond amidst the fluff.

Single “Now”, a melancholic beauty with a sky-scraping melody, is released on 14th January 2008.

NONPOINT RELEASE NEW ALBUM 'VENGEANCE' ON FEBRUARY 18 !!
****************************************************************************************

Florida rockers NONPOINT have just announced plans to release their newest
full-length opus 'Vengeance' here in the UK on February 18 through Bieler
Bros!

Co-producing the album with SikTH's Matt LaPlant, they have managed to
deliver their boldest and most aggressive effort yet.

Having been around for nearly ten years, NONPOINT have seen the life and
death of several genres and trends, the rise and fall of countless "next
big things" and have pretty much drawn the blueprint for indie label
success, with their ever-evolving musicianship, die hard fanbase,
astounding work ethic and one of the greatest live shows in hard rock
music today.

They have shared the stage with the likes of Linkin Park, Papa Roach,
Mudvayne, Staind, Disturbed and Stone Sour and have been a part of some of
music's biggest festivals including Ozzfest and Warped Tour.

With their version of Phil Collins' 'In The Air Tonight' prominently
featured in the box office hit 'Miami Vice' and other tracks used to
promote the Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez' movie 'Grindhouse',
these guys have most certainly struck a chord.

With tentative plans being laid to head over to the UK to tour in the
Spring of next year....WATCH THIS SPACE!!!
