Released on September 3rd2007

Tennessee 4-piece Paramore release their new single Hallelujah on September 3rd on Fueled By Ramen records. The band return to the UK for a headline tour in September and will also play Reading & Leeds festival in August.

Hallelujah is the second single to be taken from Paramore’s sophomore album Riot! which debuted in the UK album chart at Number 24 and the US album chart at Number 20. Josh (guitar), his brother Zac (drums) and Jeremy (bass) reign in their familiar out and out youthful clout to provide an ethereal backdrop for Hayley’s extraordinary voice.

COBRA STARSHIP

Send My Love To The Dance Floor,
I’ll See You In Hell (Hey, Mister DJ!)

New single released August 20th

Cobra Starship’s new single ‘Send My Love To The Dance Floor, I’ll See You In Hell (Hey, Mister DJ!)’ will be available to download from August 20th. The track is taken from their phenomenal debut album ‘While The City Sleeps, We Rule The Streets’ which was released in April through Decaydance/ Fueled By Ramen.

Cobra Starship is the brainchild of ex-Midtown frontman Gabe Saporta.  Gabe was born in Montevido, Uruguay – a tiny wedge of a country between Argentina and Brazil.  At age four he immigrated to Queens where his father Diego sold scarves on the streets of Manhattan to support his son’s dreams of becoming a rock star.  These dreams were realised with Midtown and are now once again becoming a reality with Cobra Starship.

After the inclusion of Cobra Starship’s killer track ‘Bring It (Snakes On A Plane)’ on the hit movie’s soundtrack things soon took off and it was time for Gabe to get a full band together. Gabe enlisted old friends Alex Suarez and Ryland Blackington from The Ivy League on bass and guitar respectively.  A drummer came when rockers Armor For Sleep kindly donated their beloved drum tech, Nate Navarro. The line up was complete when Victoria Asher was enlisted on keytar. World domination was now possible. With the aim of, ‘teaching hipsters to not take themselves so seriously and telling emo kids to stop being pussies’ Cobra Starship made an album jam packed full of disco-tinged pop punk and driving rock anthems. Featuring appearances from the likes of The Sounds, Gym Class Heroes and The Academy Is… ‘While The City Sleeps, We Rule The Streets’is an impossibly catchy rock extravaganza.

Following their UK tour with Fall Out Boy earlier in the year, and impending US tour with The Academy Is…, Cobra Starship will return to play at Hammersmith Apollo on August 22nd. They will then play Reading and Leeds Festivals on August 25th and 26th.

The KIng Blues

New single Come Fi Di Youth

Released on August 6th via Island/Field Records
www.myspace.com/thekingblues

The King Blues are set to release their debut single, “Come Fi Di Youth”, on 6th August through Field Recordings/Island Records.  The track appears on the album “Under The Fog” which was originally released in 2006 on the UK’s biggest punk label, Household Name, and which will be re-released through Field/Island later this year with many of the tracks re-worked.

The Hackney based band got their first break early 2006 when a home-recorded demo made it into the hands of Mike Davies of Radio 1’s The Lock Up, who gave the band repeated plays. Support from Zane Lowe soon followed after Mike passed him the CD and Field Recordings discovered the band at In The City in September 2006 where they won widespread acclaim from a panel of hardened new music critics.

The King Blues are a breath of fresh air in an industry where most musicians are afraid to have an opinion or have anything interesting to say for themselves.  The band have a commitment to politics and resistance culture, and are vocal supporters of anti-racism and anti-capitalism. Though they have played most of the UK’s major rock festivals they are just likely to be seen playing Zapatista benefit gigs, squat shows and Love Music Hate Racism festivals as they are the more traditional touring circuit. They do however refuse to rigidly define their politics, instead pooling individual beliefs for a wider common goal.

“Growing up in punk, politics was always an accepted part of music,” says Itch. “It was never a conscious thing. That said, we do have an agenda that’s quite simple: we want to unite people. We see a lot of dividing and conquering going on in society and that’s upsetting to us. We’re freedom fighters and activists. We want to cross all divisions.”

The band will be playing a number of shows throughout the summer including:

  • 14 July          GUILDFORD Guilfest
  • 27 July          HUNTINGDON  Secret Garden Party
  • 6 August       LONDON Camden Purple Turtle
  • 9 August       NEWQUAY Ripcurl Boardmasters Festival
  • 11 August      BLACKPOOL Rebellion Festival

It is the second single to come from their smash hit new record 'Tales Don't Tell Themselves, which rocketed into the UK album charts at #3 ! (to compliment the EIGHT Top 20 Singles and Two Gold Selling albums in their ever bulging back catalogue).

Indeed 2007 has already proved to be a jaw dropping year for the Welsh quintet. When they debuted the 'Tales Don't Tell Themselves' album on an exclusive MySpace player, the record received a staggering 646,443 plays in just one week!

And then the guys previewed the video for the 'Into Oblivion' single on MySpace and it was watched a staggering 14,000 times in just 24 hours (making it the 10th most watched clip on the entire of MySpace)!!

'Tales Don't Tell Themselves' is simply the boldest statement the band have yet made, and is both a culmination of everything they've released to date and a breathtaking reinvention of their band. "We've never written anything like this before," says drummer Ryan Richards. "It's just the best music we've ever made. That's really all I can say."

11/07/2007 THE BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE UK TOUR DATES

Named in tribute to the legendary Rolling Stones guitarist and his influence in introducing Eastern culture into the world of Western rock and roll, The Brian Jonestown Massacre have made some of the most exciting underground music in America since the sixties. Formed in 1990 in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco, The Brian Jonestown Massacre is very much an amalgamation of that city’s past and present musical forces.

Some 40 different members have passed through the group's ranks since it’s inception, but the heart of the BJM is the ragged determinism of Anton Newcombe — producer, songwriter, guitarist, singer and the group's primary creative force. Having now reach legendary status due to their part in the classic ‘Dig’ film, the band are about to return to the UK for the following dates:

  • 08/07       Scotland                      T in the Park
  • 09/07       Newcastle Upon Tyne     Academy 2
  • 11/07       Birmingham                   Academy 2

HOPEWELL STORMS THE UK

Hopewell will release their expansive new album Beautiful Targets on Tee Pee Records (BJM, Warlocks, Entrance). They are also due to land in England for the first time since 2001. Catch them at some Truck Festival warm up shows in London & South Hampton. Since the release of their critically acclaimed album Hopewell & The Birds of Appetite (produced by Dave Fridmann), they have logged over 200 shows, crisscrossed the US, and received rave reviews from the most stoic of journalists. Notable appearances include SXSW, CMJ, Noise Pop Festival and tours with the Black Angels, Mark Gardner & Goldrush, Black Moth Super Rainbow, the Posies, and the Brian Jonestown Massacre.

At age 19, Hopewell’s founder/lead singer, Jason Russo found himself traversing the world with the now legendary Mercury Rev. Following Revs breakthrough record Deserter’s Songs, Russo struck out on his own to focus on Hopewell, described by NME as: “Breathtaking, bombastic psychedelic rock with a dark turbulence at it's heart; the two elements tugging at each other until a music that is both disquietingly beautiful and emotionally powerful is all that remains." The band toured extensively in the UK, Europe, and the US and recorded a Peel session before returning to their beloved upstate wilderness to delve back into the studio.

The result is Beautiful Targets. Produced by Bill Racine (Mates Of State, Rogue Wave), the collection of loosely related narratives showcases a band at the height of it’s powers. Somewhere in the anthemic soaring strings of Tree, the pop prowess of Bethlehem, and the shrieking maelstrom of Windy Day, the band makes it clear that they are dead serious. Serious about outdoing themselves, seriously determined to make lasting, genre-defying music, and seriously out to break the listener's heart. Their fourth full-length album finds Hopewell perfecting their inherent gift for drama. Where their previous efforts honored turmoil and chaos, this is the sound of a band who has survived and managed to make something beautiful out of their struggle.

Tour Dates:

Tue, Jul 17th: The Social - Westminster, London (w/ The Silent League)
Wed, Jul 18th: The Windmill - Brixton, Brixton (w/ The Lea Shores)
Thu, Jul 19th: The Borderline - Soho, London (w/ Imperial Leisure)
Fri, Jul 20th: The Joiners - Southampton, Hampshire (w/ Owen Tromans)
Sun, Jul 22nd: Truck Festival - Steventon, Oxfordshire (w/ Idlewild, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Garth Hudson, Goldrush, The Silent League and many many more...)

Press:

Hopewell’s impressive new Beautiful Targets finds ex–Mercury Rev psych-popper Jason Russo bouncily exploring cheerier and more day-glo–oriented terrain, though he’s still reaching for that epic vista gaze.” Village Voice  -Bosler

“Uplifting, soulful, psychedelic rock… Welcome to Hopewell, the home of beautiful music.” Chris Solmon, Time Out London

"Sublime, stabbing, psychedelia. There are moments of extreme grandiosity, crushing and immense, with billowing crescendos and flattening layers of feedback - but they are buffered by a sweet off-kilter romanticism. Hopewell have located the spot where the personal and universal intersect, rendering each moment both introspective and transcendental." April Long, NME

“If you are wondering where the soul of Mercury Rev went, it may just have followed former member Jason Russo after his departure from the legendary unit. Now fronting Hopewell, he led the band through a set reminiscent of the fuzzy dynamics bands had in the early '90's. The thick and tasty sound may snare a tonal quality with the grungers, but the band reign with a pop majesty that glitters over the feedback. Package all this with a stage presence that gleamed with rock'n'roll glory and Hopewell aren't the heirs, they're building the kingdom.” Exclaim! Magazine Canada

"Breathtaking, dreamy psychedelic rock with a dark turbulence at it's heart; the two elements tugging at each other until a music that is both disquietingly beautiful and emotionally powerful is all that remains." - Stevie Chick NME

"Hopewell treat their music with devotional respect... patently the sort of band who believe in its power to heal rifts, inspire visions, effect change. They are looking to build their own cathedrals. " April Long, NME

Hopewell add some hangover-hazy honky-tonk grit to their spacey sprawl, the results are uniquely out of this world.” - Entertainment Weekly

GUILFEST  2007
‘READY TO ROLL!’

The 16th GuilFest is this coming weekend and all is set for a fantastic festival of music, arts and fun.   GuilFest remains one of the country’s leading independent festivals and has been recognized as one of the most welcoming festivals and was voted the ‘UK’s Best Family Festival’ in 2006.

You don’t need to be a music fanatic to enjoy the positive vibes radiating from the eclectic colorful entertainment taking place in Stoke Park between Friday 13th and Sunday 15th July.  Theatre, comedy or traditional festival mellowness – you can be thoroughly invigorated or simply chill out.  There is ample free parking on site and the festival is just 20 minutes walk from Guildford main train station, or a short taxi ride.

A medium sized event (capacity 24,000 per day) offering giants of rock, (Supergrass, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Squeeze) reggae, (Jimmy Cliff, Toots and The Maytals) folk, (Richard Thompson,) pop, (Magic Numbers,) ambient/dance (Morcheeba) and Ska/Two Tone (Madness and The Beat) along with rising stars Cherry Ghost, My Vitriol, Reuben, Your Code Name is: Milo, Six Nation State and literally dozens upon dozens of other critically acclaimed live acts – GuilFest continues to put quality before fashion on a program that boasts more depth than ever before.

Facilities are generous for all – viewing platforms for those with disabilities, a reasonably priced mammoth bar as usual and this year more clean lavatories than ever before!

Worried it may rain?  Guildford is officially one of the sunniest towns in England but should we experience inclement weather its reassuring to know that four of our stages and the bar areas are under cover and the site is well drained.

Value for money?  There are hefty discounts for under 16s, under 12s are admitted free when accompanied by an adult and weekend tickets offer the best value for the full GuilFest experience.

Tickets still available from www.guilfest.co.uk
or via the hotline 0871 4240050…………….

GuilFest 2007 is straining to be let off the leash – be there when it is!

NEW ALBUM “MAN ON THE ROOF” SET FOR 10TH SEPTEMBER
PRECEDED BY SINGLE “SCAR” ON SEPT. 3RD (FICTION RECORDS)
*please note these new release dates. These are now finalized and set in stone*

“a superb storyteller” – The Times
“supernaturally talented” - Q Magazine

Stephen Fretwell is set to release his new album Man On The Roof on September 10th.  Recorded in New York with producer Eli Janney, these 14 songs are the follow-up to Fretwell’s Gold-selling debut of 2004, Magpie.  The album is preceded by a single on 3rd September - the up-beat and optimistic Scar.
Stephen Fretwell, was born in Scunthorpe in 1981, a fact that belies the maturity and worldliness of his song-writing. These days, he's mostly resident in Manchester, but he liked New York so much he decided to make his second album there.  Man On The Roof, will surprise people. It's not as melancholy as Magpie, but it is just as beguiling.  This means the lugubrious sway of Coney; the romantic The Ground Beneath Your Feet, "about redemption, about being saved by a woman"; while Funny Hat and William Shatner's Dog are both about the same person.  Sleep and Coney concern adultery in body and mind respectively, while the couples in Bumper Cars and Darlin' Don't struggle to get past whatever first base is, but as Fretwell himself says, "it's pretty coded"...
While finishing the album earlier this year, Fretwell found time to play a handful of sold-out solo acoustic shows in February followed by a further series of shows in May which featured contributions by Jonny Lexus and Eli Janney, and released Four Letter Words – a limited edition 5 or 4 song EP (10” and CD formats respectively) of tracks taken from the album recording sessions.

Stephen is playing a one-off show at Soho Revue Bar, London on 26 July.

He is also confirmed for the following festivals:
14th July Guildford, Guilfest (early afternoon acoustic set) http://www.guilfest.co.uk/2007
14th July Bristol, Ashton Court Festival (stage time 9pm) www.ashtoncourtfestival.com
2nd Aug Stockton, Stockton Riverside Festival (Free entry) www.fringefestival.co.uk
17th Aug Edinburgh, T on The Fringe - Liquid Rooms www.tonthefringe.com
18th Aug Stafford, V Festival http://www.vfestival.com/
19th Aug, Chelmsford, V Festival http://www.vfestival.com/

More live dates are being planned and will be announced soon.
