PRESS RELEASES - June 2007

Midnight In America released 20th August 2007 on Equal Vision Records

“A perfect album… (Modern Life Is War) take Springsteen’s working class poetry and add on 10 pounds of angst” Wonka Vision magazine

“The most passionate and intense hardcore available for consumption by the public” Punk Planet

“A modern hardcore masterpiece from the first note to the last” lambgoat.com

Modern Life Is War will release their third album ‘Midnight In America’ on their new home- Equal Vision records, produced by indie-rock legend J. Robbins (Against Me!, Texas Is The Reason, Murder By Death).

The band, which calls Marshalltown, Iowa their home, formed in 2002 by five friends who shared the same dream of starting their own DIY punk/hardcore band and somehow escaping the sleepy town where they all grew up.  By the end of 2003 they had released their own 7”single, recorded their debut album, ‘My Love.My Way’ & built a fan base through constant touring across the US.  In early 2004 Reflections records licensed their debut and sent them on their first ever European tour.  In 2005 the group signed with Deathwish Inc which after more touring led the band to release the highly regarded ‘Witness’.  Deathwish Inc then reissued ‘My Love.My Way’ in the Autumn of 2006.

Jumping to the present, they inked a deal with Equal Vision earlier this year and ‘Midnight In America’ is their label debut, set to cement them as one of the most important bands in hardcore today.

After successful tours with Converge, Bane, Comeback Kid to name but a few, MLIW will be touring this summer with Southern rock/Post-hardcore bands He Is Legend and Maylene & The Sons of Disaster in the USA and expect to hit the UK soon after.

Tennison
Tellison Debut Album ‘Contact! Contact!’

Released September 3rd 2007

"This band deserve your love" - ROCKSOUND

Tellison are a band you need to know. A band you should know.

It’s always difficult to write a press release for a band you’re a fan of, love and admire, and have been listening to constantly for the past two months, but it’s my job so here it goes.

So at the most basic, Tellison are four scruffy, awkward and terribly disorganised young lads from West London who play disarming, heartfelt and habit forming independent popular music. Their debut full length ‘Contact! Contact!’ is a vital and wonderful record set for release on September 3rd on Gravity DIP. It was recorded in characteristically fractured and disjointed fashion - in locations four hundred miles apart, with two different producers, over a period of six months and has been over a year in the making.

The songs on ‘Contact! Contact!’ place emphasis and focus on elements musical contemporaries often lose sight of– great songs, intelligent lyrics, stoic melodies sweeping guitar hooks and vocals to make your heart burst. ‘Contact! Contact’ is an amalgam of songs reviewing anticipation lost to fear, thoughts past, disasters, apologies, battles, hope and introspection, inhibiting the intangible creative space somewhere beyond the realms of contemporary popular music and yet somehow sitting in the midst of an existing musical landscape. Forward thinking, yet somehow at odds with the everyday, the album is filled with sparks and moments.

‘Hanover Start Clapping’ kicks off the album with velocity, layered vocals and a melodic sense of urgency that resonates throughout the whole album. Upcoming single ‘Gallery’ is an all encompassing tectonic testament to lost adventures and ideals, mixing in bleeping electronics to the bands guitar, bass and drums blueprint.

‘New York, New York, New York’ is the records centrepiece, an absolute audience anthem with an urgent, mile high chorus that reaches self toppling heights and invites you to feel it’s intensity when reaching it’s final hyperbolic calls of “Let’s move to New York, New York’. The album comes to a close on a poignant note with the reflective ‘Disaster, Disaster’ and the silencing ‘Hospital’ a delicate and moving song sung in hushed tones, with subtle instrumentation that is simply stunning.

Tellison have won over many friends and fans across the country, logging miles touring with Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, The Audition, Kubicheck, Walter Schreifels, Frank Turner, Hell Is For Heroes, Good Shoes and more. Their future touring plans include a headline UK tour with Encyclopedia that runs from the 14th of July to the 7th of August (London show at The Barfly on Monday July 23rd), a host of festivals and a September tour with Dartz!

So Tellison, just four boys with Drums, Bass, Cowbells, Keyboards, Two Broken Guitars, Four Broken Voices, One Wounded Laptop, some Extra-Curricular instruments with pure, wild-eyed, old-fashioned fight.

Tellison are a band you need to know. A band you should know.

"Their treble-layered harmonies and quirky energetic songs recall the sense, if not the sound, of The Get Up Kids in their early days... a wonderful sense of hope, regret and youthful abandon" - KERRANG!

 Tellison is-

Henry Danowski – Drums, Percussion

Stephen Davidson – Vocals, Guitar

Ash
THE FINAL ALBUM
TWILIGHT OF THE INNOCENTS
out July 2nd 2007

Band announce radical new music industry business model

International rock band Ash, have announced bold new plans to cease releasing future albums in the traditional way.

On the eve of what will become their final album, ‘Twilight Of The Innocents’, the band have taken the decision to only release singles in the future.

Known for consistently writing hit singles since the early 90’s (17 top 40 hits, an Ivor Novello award and five Top 10 albums), the band feel it is time to make a stand in the future digital arena by only releasing singles. Periodically, the band will release compilation CDs featuring the aforementioned singles.

Famously known for their pro-active stance on the internet (the band were the first to cultivate a huge loyal following using their online message board, were the first to use the internet via a fledgling nme.com, to get fans to vote for which tour towns they should play and had the first ever number one single in the download charts), the band feel it is now time to fully embrace the digital future of the music industry.

Owning their own recording studio means that the band will be able to write, record and release their music almost instantly, their fans will then benefit from not having to wait the usual ‘years’ between albums.

At a time when the music industry is in flux and with record sales at an all-time low, marketing music in the traditional sense is becoming increasingly less financially viable. The band hope that by harnessing the power of the internet and by being more creative in the way their singles are marketed, the record company can maximise sales, increase profits and enhance their already impressive 13 year career.

Tim Wheeler from the band:

“The way people listen to music has changed, with the advent of the download the emphasis has reverted to single tracks. It hasn't helped that most people have forgotten how to make a decent album. I'm constantly disappointed with records I buy.

I believe our new album is the pinnacle of everything we've done thus far, and I'm proud that this will be remembered as our last album. The future lies elsewhere and we can have a lot of fun by changing things up. It's like the Wild West at the moment,  a time to take chances and try out new ideas.

When you're tied to the album format, you find yourself waiting six months between finishing a record and releasing it. By leaving this behind we can enter a new phase of spontaneity and creativity. We have our own studio in New York, we can record a track and release it the next day if we feel like it, give it to people while it's fresh. We're the first band to do this , but I very much doubt we'll be the last.

We've been one of the best singles bands of the last two decades and we're still younger than a lot of bands on the current scene. I’m excited to push this claim further by dedicating ourselves wholly to the art of the single for the digital age.”

Following the band's recent return to chart action - the single 'You Can't Have It All' went Top 20, Ash continue their aural onslaught with news of a new single and album. The track, entitled 'Polaris', is slated for June 18th and is followed by their fifth and final album, Twilight of the Innocents, on July 2nd.

The band will be undertaking live commitments as follows:

JOSH PYKE
new single: “Private Education” out July 2nd (dig.), July 9th (CD & 7” vinyl)
Josh makes Glasto debut June 23rd

On 2nd July ’07 Island Records will release the new single by rising Australian singer-songwriter Josh Pyke.  Entitled “Private Education” it is written and performed by Josh Pyke.  Recorded in Sydney and New York it was produced by Wayne Connolly and Josh Pyke.

A story of a doomed love affair, “Private Education” is taken from Josh’s recently released debut album “Memories & Dust” which he recorded as pretty much a one man band -  “I play pretty much everything - guitars, bass, piano, keys, a bit of banjo….I’d be the string section if I could, anything to bring it closer to the sounds and sensibility I’m hearing in my head. ” “Private Education” is a crafted, honed song which reveals new layers on each listen. “Lyrics intrigue me. I love story-tellers like John Steinbeck, Saul Bellow, Jack London, the Australian writer Tim Winton. I like books where nothing seems to happen at all, and yet you’re completely engaged…”

Before the release of “Private Education”, Josh Pyke will make his UK festival debut on at the Glastonbury Festival on Saturday 23rd June. After his performance on the The Park stage, Josh will pick up a crate of beer and his acoustic guitar, and head out into the campsite to perform some songs and have a drink with one lucky competition winner and their friends. FICTION PLANE RELEASE NEW ALBUM & SUPPORT THE POLICE ON THEIR WORLD TOUR !
*******************************************************************************************************************

Transatlantic rockers (2 x Brits, 1 x Yank!) FICTION PLANE release the
'Two Sisters' single on July 30 on Bieler Bros. Records.

Taken from their new album 'Left Side Of The Brain' (itself due for
release on August 20), it is a potent mix of jagged melody and infectious
grooves.

The band are also supporting The Police on their world tour, including the
much anticipated UK dates throughout Sept and October 2007.

Produced by Paul Corkett (Radiohead, Björk, The Cure), it is the formal
debut of the band as a three piece - Joe Sumner on bass and vocals, Seton
Daunt on guitar and Pete Wilhoit on drums - with the departure of
keyboardist/bassist Dan Brown to raise a family.

"In a way, this album is about us letting it all hang out," says Daunt.
"It's a bit more bold and obnoxious, guitar wise. It's louder and
prouder." "It's sort of a coming out party for us," says Wilhoit. "We sort
of unleashed the animal within."

Sumner talks about the meaning behind track "Death Machine" - war: "I
really understand the desire to protect your country, and the desire to
fight for what you believe in, but the people who are telling you what you
should do in order to do it, I just don't trust."

Nepotism, meanwhile, is at the heart of "Running the Country": "It
discusses how unqualified and possibly unsuitable people can be, who find
themselves in positions of power because of who they are." says Sumner.
It's a track that surely has relevance to the precarious position he finds
himself in being the son of one of rock's biggest superstars: Sting. That
lineage is one that Sumner has grappled with all his life, trying to
establish himself as both his own man and his own musician.

"I spent many years lying about it, and avoiding it," he says. "Even if I
took a job in a pub in the middle of nowhere, someone would figure it
out." His desire to step out from that shadow loomed large in the band's
decision whether or not to take the offered opener's slot on this summer's
massive Police reunion tour. To be blunt, in the end, Sumner just said
f**k it: "I just figured if it's gonna happen anyway, I might as well take
full advantage. I think we're ready, we've got a great band and great
songs."

Having been dubbed The Red Hot Chavvy Peppers by one appreciator of the
band, these guys are sparking a new musical revolution for the spliff and
playstation generation of today.

Front man, MC and all-round lad Alex Adams comes from a drum n bass
background, while the rest of the band were raised on the likes of The Red
Hot Chili Peppers, Mars Volta, Muse and System Of A Down. The result has
been described as "The Streets meets Rage Against The Machine". Or as one
wag put it 'the resulting offspring of a sexual liaison between the Chilli
Peppers and Vicki Pollard!'.
