PRESS RELEASES - September 2007
30/09/2007 TESLA
***NOVEMBER UK TOUR FOLLOWS RAVE REVIEWS OF NEW ‘REAL TO REEL ALBUM***

“One of the most genuine of the hard rock bands from the ‘80s, Tesla would have to be at death’s door to produce a bad album. They are - and always were – a talented, soulful and gritty blue collar rock act, their music boasting a sincerity that has sold them over 16 million albums. This covers album is another solid Tesla creation, beyond criticism in its musicianship and featuring a sometimes unusual track choice. Tesla revive the music that inspired them, the emotional hard rock of Thin Lizzy, UFO, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. They apply to it the endless class that has come naturally to them for two decades. Long may it continue. KKKK” Steve Beebee, Kerrang!, July 7th 2007, reviewing ‘Real To Reel’.

Bluesy, no-frills US hard rock band TESLA, [Jeff Keith (vocals), Frank Hannon (guitars), Brian Wheat (bass), Troy Luccketta (drums) and Dave Rude (guitar)], who have just released their sixth studio album ‘Real To Reel’ to huge acclaim, have confirmed their first UK tour for over 16 years in November. Dates are:-

Mon. 5th November London Islington Academy (£16.50)
Tue. 6th November Glasgow Garage (£16.50)
Thur. 8th November Nottingham Rock City (£16.50)
Fri. 9th November Dudley JB's (£16.50)
Sat. 10th November Minehead Hard Rock Hell Festival (£99/sold out)

Tesla launched ‘Real To Reel with a one-off concert at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire gig on June 28th, which Classic Rock Magazine ’s Dave Ling reviewed in their August 2007 issue; “Tesla’s first UK gig in 16 years was a revelation. Promoting their unexpectedly fine covers album ‘Real To Reel’, the Sacramento-based hard rockers began with a scorching version of ‘Comin’ Atcha Live’, before before guitarist Frank Hannon and Brian Wheat got to indulge in all their Michael Schenker and Pete Way fantasies with an equally effective version of UFO’s ‘Rock Bottom’…Due to a curfew the show ended early, hence the absence of ‘EZ Come EZ Go’, the opener from 1986’s ‘Mechanical Resonance’ debut. But Tesla played just about everything else you could wish for…There’s talk of a tour in October. Only a fool would miss it.”

REAL TO REEL, released on the band’s own independent label, Tesla Electric Company Recordings, in partnership with Rykodisc International, was produced by TESLA and Tom Zutaut and recorded at the Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas. The result is a captivating collection of classic rockers from the ‘60s and ‘70s, recorded through a vintage Neve console directly to Ampex 456 analog tape to capture the purity of these timeless and legendary songs. Songs include: ‘Space Truckin’, ‘I’ve Got A Feeling’, ‘Thank You’, ‘Ball of Confusion’, ‘Rock Bottom’, ‘Bell Bottom Blues’ and ‘Honky Tonk Women’.

Biography

TESLA, named after Nikola Tesla, the creator of the A/C (Alternating Current) electrical motor who also pioneered the radio, originated in Sacramento, Califormia, their hard driving, down to earth, bluesy metal sound soon winning over a huge following. In contrast to their contemporaries, who were plastered in make up and crammed into tight leather strides, TESLA’s t-shirt and jeans image reflected their no frills music in no uncertain terms.

‘Mechanical Resonance’, TESLA’s debut album, released in 1986, reached the top 40 of the album charts and the band won the opening slot on Dave Lee Roth’s US tour, before heading over to Europe for a headline club tour. On returning to the US they opened for Alice Cooper, then hitched up with Def Leppard for an 8 month world tour.

After 15 months on the road ‘Mechanical Resonance’ went platinum (1 million sales in the US) and TESLA reconvened to record their second album, 1989’s ‘The Great Radio Controversy’. ‘Love Song’, the first single released from the album, hit the pop Top Ten and powered ‘The Great Radio Controversy’ into the Top 20 and double-platinum sales figures; the follow-up single, "The Way It Is," was also a hit.

In keeping with their unpretentious, blue-collar roots, Tesla responded to stardom not by aping the glam theatrics of their tourmates, but by stripping things down. The idea behind 1990s ‘Five Man Acoustical Jam’ was virtually unheard of - a metal band playing loose, informal acoustic versions of their best-known songs in concert, plus a few favourite covers. Fortunately, Tesla's music was sturdy enough to hold up when its roots were exposed, and one of the covers – ‘Signs’, an idealistic bit of hippie outrage by the Five Man Electrical Band - became another Top Ten hit.

Not only did ‘Five Man Acoustical Jam’ reach the Top 20 and go platinum, but it also helped directly inspire MTV's Unplugged series, both with its relaxed vibe and its reminder that acoustic music could sound vital and energetic. Brian remembers “When I met Jimmy Page he said to me, ‘I really liked your acoustic record.’ I said ‘Really, I didn’t even think you knew who Tesla was.’ He said, ‘You were the first one to do a live acoustic album’”

The studio follow-up to ‘The Great Radio Controversy’, ‘Psychotic Supper’, was released in 1991 and quickly became another platinum hit. It didn't produce any singles quite as successful as "Love Song" or "Signs," but it did spin off the greatest number of singles of any Tesla album - "Edison's Medicine," "Call It What You Want," "What You Give," "Song and Emotion."

But the winds of change were blowing, and by the time Tesla returned with their 1994 follow-up ‘Bust a Nut’, those Seattle winds had blown pretty much any new blue-collar hard rock off the airwaves. ‘Bust a Nut’ did sell over a million copies worldwide, but the band decided it was time to ‘hang it up’ at the end of their 1995 US tour and disbanded.

After five years of each band member regrouping and recharging their batteries, Tesla emerged with renewed energy and determination when they reunited on October 25th 2000 for what was meant to be a one-off reunion show at the Arco Arena in their hometown of Sacramento.

The ecstatic reaction of the sold-out crowd of thousands of happy fans welcoming them back persuaded Tesla to get back together full time. The band toured relentlessly for seven months, recording every show, the best of which was released as the double ‘Replugged Live’ album in the Autumn of 2001.

2004 saw the release of Tesla’s first studio album for ten years, ‘Into The Now’, which took over two years to write and record. ‘Into The Now’ was hailed as a massive, contemporary return to form, and wound up in the top ten of a majority of hard rock journalists’ and readers’ albums of the year charts.

On Tesla’s ‘Electric Summer Jam’ tour in 2006, (the first tour with guitarist Dave Rude, who replaced original guitarist Tommy Skeoch) the band road tested some of their favourite classic rock tracks live. While UFO’s “Rock Bottom” went down like a storm to a standing, cheering, grandstand crowd of 10,000 in Milwaukee, Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” engaged 6,000 people in Lansing, Michigan so much that they refused to leave during a torrential rainstorm that lasted throughout the entire two-hour show. After getting such a positive reaction from their fans, the band knew making REAL TO REEL was a logical next step for them.

30/09/2007 STERIOGRAM
***NZ ROCKERS ‘THIS IS NOT THE TARGET MARKET’ ALBUM LAUNCH @ ISLINGTON ACADEMY SEPT 26TH
PRECEDES OCTOBER UK TOUR WITH AGAINST ME***

“Very little ages you faster than being screwed over by people you once trusted. That’s how Steriogram feel about their previous record company, Capitol, who apparently just left them hanging. As a result, this album could hardly be more different to 2004’s debut. A transformed Steriogram go for the jugular, launching big punch-the-air hooks over raw guitar and screaming vocals. They even recruit Killing Joke’s Jaz Coleman to bust his lungs on opener ‘Get Up’. This is the first serious rock album of Steriogram’s career” KKKK Steve Beebee. Kerrang! Sept. 8th 2007.

Re-enervated NZ rockers Steriogram celebrate their just-released second album, ‘This Is Not The Target Market’, with a headline gig at London’s Islington Academy on September 26th, prior to setting off round Europe with Against Me, culminating with the following UK & Irish shows:-

Wed. 24th October Dublin TBMC (16 Euros)
Thur. 25th October Belfast Limelight (£10.00)
Fri. 26th October Glasgow Garage (£9.00)
Sat. 27th October Leeds Cockpit (£9.00)
Sun. 28th October Oxford Zodiac (£9.00)
Mon. 29th October Brighton Concorde II (£9.00)
Tues. 30th October Manchester Academy 3 (£9.00)
Wed. 31st October Birmingham Academy 2 (£9.00)
Thurs. 1st November London Electric Ballroom (£12.50)

‘This Is Not The Target Market’, which was released on the band’s own Short Stack Records label, distributed by Cargo, on September 3rd, contains ten Insanely catchy raucous rock anthems, not least ‘Own Way Home’, ‘Just Like You’ and ‘Satan Is A Lady’.

Auckland’s Steriogram are a 5 man hard alternative rock band with over a quarter of a million album sales already under their belt. Formed in 1999, they built up a huge following in New Zealand before coming to the attention of Capitol Records in Los Angeles, who signed the band in 2003. Their debut album, ‘Schmack’, recorded in Hollywood, spawned a Top 20 hit in the UK when their ‘Walkie Talkie Man’ single became the worldwide theme song to the iconic ipod commercial campaign in 2004.

2005 saw Steriogram return to New Zealand, where they got down to writing and recording… and waiting. “It was like the proverbial brick wall” says drummer Jared Wrennal. “We would send demos to Capitol and hear nothing back for months.” After a year of waiting the band took matters into their own hands and recorded 19 tracks, the cream of which would eventually become ‘This Is Not The Target Market’. The album, which was recorded in Auckland’s York Street studios, features a cameo appearance from Killing Joke frontman Jaz Coleman, who during a late night booze fuelled recording session, wandered into the studio and lent his blood curling howl to the frenetic opening track ‘Get Up’.

The album title itself is both a nod to the late comedian Mitch Hedburg - a long time idol - and an apt description of former label Capitol's attitude toward the band. "If there is any recurring theme in this album it's of being treated like dirt by Capitol" guitarist Brad Carter notes. "Hardly ground-breaking subject matter I know, but it's what we were going through at the time!" As with all classic albums, the best are born from frustration and ‘This Is Not The Target Market’ is no exception to the rule.

30/09/2007 THE ALMIGHTY
***20TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR
JANUARY 19TH - FEBRUARY 1ST 2008***

The Almighty, the reunited eight legged axe-grinding rock machine who brought the house down when they toured the UK in December 2006, have announced a 20th Anniversary UK tour for 2008, sponsored by Classic Rock Magazine.

Singer Ricky Warwick states that “What can't be killed only grows more powerful and thus 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of The Almighty. Always full throttle, The Almighty have released 10 devastating full length albums, logged in countless touring miles across the globe, destroyed many a stage, and done their part to keep the sonic spirit of true rock n' roll alive. To commemorate their 20th anniversary, the classic lineup of lead singer/rhythm guitarist Ricky Warwick, drummer Stumpy, lead guitarist Pete Friesen and bassist Floyd London have announced that The Almighty will be hitting the road and hitting it hard. Now more than ever it's time to embrace being All Loud, All Wild, All F**kin Mighty! Ears will ring, drinks will spill, and caution will be forgotten in what promises to be one of the UK's most anticipated tours of 2008.”

Fri. 1st February London Mean Fiddler (0870 154 4040)

Record Collector reviewed The Almighty live in Glasgow on 30th December 2006. “Once more into the breach, The Almighty’s reunion shows saw a band on fire. Ricky still looks like he’s trying to pass kidney stones, Pete resembles a self-help guru, while Stumpy is stumpier than ever and Floyd beams like he’s just won the lottery… This was only supposed to be a temporary get together, but Ricky promised that they’d be back next year. Catch them while you can” wrote Stuart Hamilton in March 2007’s issue.

Sanctuary Records released the band’s double ‘Anth’f***Ing’ology The Gospel According To…’ CD/DVD on February 5th 2007. Kerrang!s Steve Beebee wrote “It’s fair to say that The Almighty should never have split up. This retrospective is a powerful reminder that while the band always remained open to new styles and perspectives, they never lost the potency and sheer firepower that propelled them in the first place. In the early 90’s they’d habitually pummel the Top 40, were shit-hot live and, like natural successors to Motorhead, should never have quit. With a chronological tracklisting, it’s easy to chart how The Almighty developed from their initial guts-and-diesel sleaze metal, through anthemic rock, grunge and, finally, leaned back towards their original bearings. Every phase of their career has been viable and enjoyable. KKKK”

Dust off those air guitars,
THE PLIGHT are here to f**k up your day!

If you love your riffs classic, your vocals throaty and your beats thumping, then THE PLIGHT might just be your favourite new band. Imagine Black Flag getting trashed with Thin Lizzy at a Motörhead gig. Sound good? Well, that’s because THE PLIGHT are bleeding GREAT!

“I'd like to think we bring something new to the musical table.” explains John, sticksman. And that they certainly do. Why does Hardcore have to be so rigid? Wasn’t Punk all about breaking the rules in the first place? THE PLIGHT draw on a vast range of influences, from British classics like Black Sabbath and Led Zep, right through to American pioneers such as The Stooges and Scissorfight.

Formed in Leeds in 2004, their first practice was in the particularly rock and roll location of an abandoned office block on the outskirts of the city. THE PLIGHT began to tour the UK extensively, playing anywhere that would have them, their hard work paying off in 2006, when Leeds label Thirty Days of Night picked released their self titled MCD that summer.

Since then, they have shared stages with the likes of Sick of it All, Bring me the Horizon, and a full UK tour with Gallows in 06. This incredibly hard working ethic and energetic mix of Punk & Rock and Roll has already raised many an eyebrow in the Rock press, such as Radio One’s Mike Davies, who invited the band to record a BBC Session in August 07.

The new mini album, the aptly titled BLACK SUMMER, will be released through Visible Noise on 8th October 2007, and promises to be ram packed with their trademark mash-up of old school riffs and infectious aggression. Artwork comes from Visible Noise favourite Dan Mumford (Gallows, Architects, Johnny Truant). Expect a full headline tour around the October release.

Excited? We are… Be smart and listen to THE PLIGHT.

24/09/2007 ZICO CHAIN RELEASE NEW SINGLE
AND NEW TOUR DATES.

“Where Would You Rather Be?” Released on October 8th via Hassle Records.

www.zicochain.com / www.myspace.com/zicochain

British rock band in NO HYPE shocker!! Zico Chain are taking the long way to the top, winning people over person by person, gig by gig, track by track... and they’re loving every minute!

Since you last looked…

They’re Slash and Duff’s favourite new band.

They’ve been in MTV2s chart for the last two months, two weeks at Number 1.

Kids around the country are tattooed with the band’s logo.

This single’s been a Radio 1 rock show Record Of The Week.

One of their fans’ mum bakes cakes for them and brings them to the gigs.

The Zico Army is growing fast, and the man himself would be proud of the terrace chanting at the shows - just check the photos. It’s all here, including pet-called-zico pics (a dog, a cat and a snake so far)… www.myspace.com/zicochain and the debut album’s not even out yet!

Zico Chain are three lads in their early twenties who are part of this new slew of UK guitar bands who are sick of (scr)emo-attention-seeking and are about to grab their slice of the pie. The trio have distilled the punk riffola of Motorhead, the druggy vision of QOTSA, the musical discipline of the White Stripes and a 21st century homegrown social consciousness to create a potent brew worthy of a hard-rocking, hard-living, hard-thinking east London outfit.

Touring with Alkaline Trio, Thursday, Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Wolfmother, Velvet Revolver and recording their album in LA with godfather of rock Joe Barresi (Bad Religion, Tool, QOTSA), Zico Chain are smashing it both sides of the Atlantic, with their message of celebrate yourself, use your voice, get fucked up.

‘Where Would You Rather Be?’ sounds like survival itself, kicking off about hopelessness and mental escapism with a daylight shredding voice over a sick rhythm section rumble. This is anti-corporate, musical sustenance for those tired of identikit bands, a real state(ment) of independence.

Zico Chain’s brilliant debut album ‘Food’ will be released on October 15th.

The band will also be hitting the road with Cat The Dog on the following dates:

  • 18-Nov Southampton Joiners
  • 19-Nov London Underworld
  • 20-Nov Bristol Academy
  • 22-Nov Cambridge The Graduate

Launched in 1967, as a direct response to the growing popularity of offshore pirate stations such as Radio Caroline, Radio 1 set out to appeal to a younger audience which previously hadn’t been catered for by the BBC. The first DJ to broadcast on Radio 1 was Tony Blackburn and the station’s initial DJ line-up included the likes of Terry Wogan, Kenny Everett, Jimmy Young and Ed Stewart.

Throughout its 40 year history the station has continued its remit of bringing new music to its young listenership. DJs such as Steve Lamacq, Westwood, Trevor Nelson, Zane Lowe, Pete Tong and John Peel, have all played a major part in providing an outlet for fresh and exciting contemporary music.

Mark Ronson’s new single “Valerie” featuring Amy Winehouse is out on October 15th. You can see the video here:

Through both of these high-demand releases, the band has obtained a large and loyal fan base throughout the world. Their independent success led The Birthday Massacre inking label deals with Repo Records (mainland Europe) and Metropolis Records (North America / UK) and by 2005 the band had begun its steady climb to reaching a much wider audience, culminating in a run of well-received performances on the European festival circuit.

Recorded in Toronto and Vancouver with legendary producer Dave Ogilvie (Marilyn Manson, Ministry) at the helm, “Walking with Strangers” combines ethereal electronic sounds with raw industrial rock. The album is streamed in its entirety on the band’s Myspace profile. www.myspace.com/thebirthdaymassacre

JOHNNY PANIC RELEASE NEW 'DISLOCATION' SINGLE & 'THE GOOD FIGHT' ALBUM !!
*************************************************************************************************************

London rockers JOHNNY PANIC release their new single 'Dislocation' on
October 29 and their second album 'The Good Fight' on November 12 on
Repeat Records.

Their accompanying video to 'Dislocation' can be seen on all good music
channels or at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-o50xy8a0k

It's an anthem to frustration. The refrain, "boredom turns me on", it's
rumbling bass, squealing guitars and shouted backing vocals, explode the
tightly wound tension at the heart of the song.

Scoring a British Arts Council grant to travel and play at this years
South By South West festival, they also won ten grand from the Windows
Live Spaces competition allowing them to self-finance the recording of
their second album 'The Good Fight'.

Singer Rob even collared Biffy Clyro and Therapy? producer Chris Sheldon
in the street and talked him into producing and mixing the record!

Last year they covered The Turtles 'Happy Together' for the NPower's 2006
cricket sponsorship theme tune!

With a singer who's an Ultimate Cage Fighter (next fight set up for
September 30!) these guys are determined to spend their lives fighting The
Good Fight!!

There's only one question to ask you: Which side are you on?

***DECEMBER UK TOUR DATES POSTPONED UNTIL MARCH 2008 AFTER SINGER JOHN WETTON’S TRIPLE BY-PASS HEART SURGURY***

The reunited original line-up of multi-million selling British rock group Asia have had to postpone their December UK tour until March 2008, after singer John Wetton underwent triple bypass heart surgery. John is expected to make a full recovery and is looking forward to going into the studio to work on Asia’s next studio album while recuperating.

John is philosophical and confident about the situation and wants it to be known that he will be back on stage as soon as possible. “God didn’t save me from drowning only to beat me up on the beach. I look forward to getting back on tour.” The rescheduled dates are:-

  • March 1st Falmouth Princes Pavilion
  • March 2nd Bournemouth BIC Pavilion
  • March 4th Liverpool Academy
  • March 7th Ebbw Vale Leisure centre
  • March 8th Frome Cheese & Grain
  • March 9th Wolverhampton Civic Hall
  • March 11th Nottingham Rock City
  • March 12th Oxford The Academy
  • March 13th Manchester Academy
  • March 16th London Shepherds Bush Empire
  • March 18th Newcastle Academy
  • March 19th Glasgow Academy
  • March 20th Perth Concert Halls

Asia’s ‘Fantasia; Live In Tokyo’ double album has just been released on Eagle Records. Record Collector’s Tim Jones, who awarded it 5/5 in September 2007’s issue, proclaimed a ‘Triumphant live set from this returning supergroup… The original 1982 line-up returned in 2006 in fine pomp rock form, and this 18-track collection captures the essence of their very fine craft.’ The DVD of the concert is set to be released on Eagle Vision on October 2nd.

Asia, formed by bassist/vocalist John Wetton, drummer Carl Palmer, keyboardist Geoff Downes, and guitarist Steve Howe, was the logical successor to their collective bands of the 70s - Yes, ELP, King Crimson and The Buggles. The band’s eponymous debut album was the biggest-selling album in the world in the year of its release (1982) and spawned the US top ten singles ‘Heat Of The Moment’, ‘Only Time Will Tell’ and ‘Sole Survivor’. After the release of the 1984 follow-up, ‘Alpha’, which produced the top ten singles ‘Don’t Cry’ and ‘The Smile Has Left Your Eyes’ and also went platinum, the four musicians went their own various ways.

Then in early 2006, the original line-up announced their reformation. "This is the REAL ASIA," stated guitarist Steve Howe. "There have been other versions of the band, but this original line-up is the one that the public truly embraced. Since we only toured for a couple of years, it will be nice to finally play for audiences all over the world, many of whom never had a chance to see the group in concert."

Asia sold out their London Shepherds Bush Empire gig on December 3rd 2006. Classic Rock’s Dave Ling enthused “Reunited to celebrate the quarter-century anniversary of their multi-platinum, self-titled debut, Asia play all of its nine songs tonight, plus ‘The Smile Has Left Her Eyes’ ‘Don’t Cry’ and ‘The Heat Goes On’ from successor ‘Alpha’. Combining the guilty indulgence of top quality pomp rock with soaring pop sensibilities, all sound absolutely glorious, reminding us why Asia were called a supergroup when they formed. The grins on stage and off tell us that the chemistry between these four exceptional musicians remains undimmed.”

Tickets for Asia’s December shows are valid for their rescheduled tour in March.

10/09/2007 PROXY
New single: Jet Lag (October 22nd)

Proxy release their debut single, Jet Lag, on download only through the Digital Island Label on Monday 22nd October. A radio edit of Jet Lag is available, the day the single goes to radio, on 10th September. A remix version by Stubby Dials is available on the 15th October.

The ethos of the newly formed label is to only release digital singles in the face of the rapidly declining physical market and to use innovative online promotional strategies to help break artists. One of the key elements is to make singles available digitally from the moment they go to radio giving fans a chance to buy tracks as they hear them rather than downloading illegally from p2p networks. This is one of the main reasons that attracted Proxy to sign to the label as well as the fantastic Island Records heritage.

The original version of Jet Lag will be released on Oct 8th closely followed by the Stubby Dials remix on Oct 15th instead of the traditional CD / 7” formats.

Though Proxy are English and London-based, the four members of Proxy were born and raised in three different continents – half-Chinese frontman Jon Brown in Hong Kong, Will Hanson in Paris and the Grindy brothers who form the unwavering rhythm section in South Africa.

Guitarists Jon and Will have been playing together since the age of ten, the early years of the band were defined by sporadic gigs when at school or, later, when the members were back home from college commitments - and little more. When all four members of Proxy found themselves back in London two years ago and inspired by seeing bands such as The Mars Volta or Mogwai, they decided to get serious.

In the summer of 2006 Proxy were flown to New York having won the unsigned wing of the US-wide Britbus Tour (a London bus travelling the States throwing listening parties) – as voted for by music scholars at NYU. Other artists on the tour included Arctic Monkeys and Hard-Fi.

On returning from America the band recorded their debut EP Dawn Raid, which caught the attention of producer Nick Thompson from their long-term Kent studio.

In spring 2007 Proxy recorded their debut album Between Screens, to be released in early 2008.

Proxy are: Jon Brown - Vocals/Guitar, Will Hanson – Guitar, Mike Grindy – Bass and Rich Grindy – Drums.

Scouting For Girls

New single She’s So Lovely out 3rd September 2007
Debut album Scouting for Girls out 17th September 2007
on Epic Records

Scouting For Girls release their new single, ‘She’s So Lovely’, through Epic Records on 3rd September 2007. The single will be available on CD and two different 7-inch vinyl.

London indie-pop trio Scouting For Girls are a band that offers a unique take on life. Their warmth, wit and healthy dose of bittersweet nostalgia, make an individual stand for the young at heart.

The band have experienced a whirlwind start to 2007. Signing to Epic Records on Valentines’ Day following a band rehearsal in their decaying Acton studio, the band were packed off to Helioscentric Studios in Rye within a week, and have since found their music filling the country’s airwaves with the debut release of their limited edition EP, 'It’s Not About You' in June.

Their formation, akin to their music, is both charming and endearingly simple. School friends Roy Stride, Greg Churchouse and Pete Ellard grew up in and around Harrow together. Roy was Pete’s ‘sixer’ at Cub Scouts, and Roy met bassist Greg in the playground at junior school. Ever since Roy persuaded Greg to get an acoustic guitar for Christmas aged 14, the trio have been indebted to writing songs together.

The band began their now infamous fan club the ‘Wolf Cub Club’ (currently bulging at the seams with Wolf Cubs across the world) at the beginning of their formation in 2005. New members receive a membership card (allowing reduced entry tickets to gigs), a Scouting For Girls Handbook (with song lyrics, membership rules and a flow of useful ‘life’ information), and a secret code to be used in sending coded messages to other members.

‘She’s So Lovely’ is the band’s first single, and arguably their signature tune. A poignant, cheeky ode to fascination and fantasy that showcases all the quintessential charm and melody of Scouting For Girls in under four minutes.

Scouting For Girls look destined to become one of the nations most cherished bands.

03/09/2007 Paul Steel
‘Your Loss’

Released September 3rd on Fascination/Polydor
Debut album ‘Moon Rock’ out January 2008

‘Sound a bit like Queen meeting the Beach Boys in the bedroom of a 15 year old boy wearing batman pyjamas! Certainly a talent.” Sean Ono Lennon

For a 20 year old, Paul Steel has some stories to tell. If you meet him you could ask him about the time he sat up ‘til the early hours of the morning playing music on tiny travel speakers in a California hotel lobby with Nelson Bragg (Brian Wilson’s percussionist). Or when he got a call from Andy Partridge (XTC) after sending him a demo. Or maybe you’ll just get into a chat about growing up in Worthing and working in BP. That’s the thing about Paul – he’s extraordinary and normal all at once.

With his mini-album ‘April & I’, which he penned aged 17 in his Brighton bedroom, Paul got the music industry talking and gained a steady live following. Now signed to Fascination/Polydor he is set to release his first single - the fuzzy, summer pop treat ‘Your Loss’. Galloping along at a fair old pace, it’s a punch-packing, organ-fuelled, Supergrass-feeling-the-noize epic, which is typical of Paul’s charismatic song writing talents

Catch Paul whipping crowds into overexcited frenzies with his mesmerizing live show at the following venues:

11 August - Belladrum, Scotland
18 August – V festival – Staffs
19 August – V festival – Chelmsford

03/09/2007 Malakai: ‘Malakai EP 1’
September 3rd on Island Records

Bristol duo Malakai follow up their limited edition Invada single ‘Fading World’ with the ‘Malakai EP 1’ on September 3rd through Island Records.

Malakai are Scott & G, a studio based act using samples & live instrumentation. Their own ideas fused with an enormous range of influences to create music that’s diverse and compelling. Over the EP you’ll hear hints of Public Image Ltd/ Tricky/Death In Vegas/Rammellzee/Morricone/Ninja Tunes/UNKLE/Demon Boys/Portishead/the Beatles/Bushkiller/Grandwizard Theodore & The Fantastic Five/Radiohead/On U Sound/ Funkadelic/Boards Of Canada/Studio 1/David Axelrod/Lee Perry/Aphrodite’s Child/13th Floor Elevators & Kool Keith. A cosmic soup of sounds and flavours that’s already whetting the appetites of Zane Lowe & Gilles Peterson.

The EP’s opening track sets the tone nicely. ‘The Battle’ is an orgy of hellfire. Snarling vocals set against a galloping Spaghetti Western style guitar riff with some tough old school drum breaks crashing against a wall of psych guitars and handclaps. ‘Moonsurfing’ is a flamenco guitar driven treat, ‘Fading World’ is the full album version newly recorded with extra strings & tings, and ‘Words Like Humble’ an authentic piece of studio one inspired reggae and not a whiff of cod in sight.

Malakai also embody a very English eccentric style that’s a nod towards the Small Face’s classic Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake, Peep Show, the Mighty Boosh & Monty Python. The skits in between the tracks are part of their make-up, they like things a little off-kilter. Keeping it all together is producer Segs (from punk legends the Ruts) and Steve Dub, both of whom recently added their studio skills as producers to the Sunshine Underground.

01/09/2007 ***MASSIVE THIRD INTERNATIONAL LONDON TATTOO CONVENTION 5/6/7 OCTOBER 2007 @ THE OLD TRUMAN BREWERY, BRICK LANE***

The London International Tattoo Convention, which takes place October 5/6/7 at The Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, has been catapulted into being THE Number One Alternative Event Of The Year in London. The inaugural convention in 2005 was wildly successful, garnered HUGE amounts of media coverage worldwide, and attracted over 15,000 visitors over three days. Last year’s convention exceeded all expectations and attracted over 17,000 visitors, confirming The London International Tattoo Convention as one of the most crowded and important conventions in the world.

The Third London International Tattoo Convention will once again be packed with top tattoo artists from the all over the world. Many Japanese masters, who have never travelled to Europe before, let alone Paul Booth from New York and Filip Leu from Lausanne, will be setting up their studios. Artists of this calibre rarely participate in conventions, but such is the stature of the London International Convention that real tattoo masters like these will be found in abundance at this unique cultural event.

Over 180 elite artists, invited from thousands of premier studios around the world, will be in London to demonstrate their extraordinary abilities, complemented by exotic esoteric dances, shows, exhibits and art events. Once again the biggest show of all will be that offered by the visitors themselves, who become the lead characters when they compete in the tattoo contests for different categories, such as Best Tribal, Best Backpiece, Best Black & Grey, Best Colours and Best of Show.

The 2007 Convention will once again feature a host of diverse related attractions, including an Anthrological Exhibition (created by Lionel Titchener of the British Tattoo History Museum), Tribal belly dancers (Les Soeurs Tribale), an Art Fusion Camp, Hawaiian and Maori war dances (Vatea Tahiti), an Art Exhibition, Extreme Performance Artists (Lucky Diamond Rich), The Suicide Girls, celebrity book and calendar launches, plus much, much more. Sound systems and spectacular lighting rigs run by International DJ’s will provide a backdrop to the event, which will be both a body art gallery and a community festival. There really will be more things to do than you can shake a stick at!

Tattoos have exploded from being a minority interest (mostly associated with sailors, soldiers and nobility), into the mainstream public’s consciousness in the last decade and It is only fitting that London should host the International Tattoo Convention, as it could be argued that modern western tattooing originated here. Captain James Cook, who discovered Tahiti and its tattooed inhabitants in 1769, coined the word ‘tattoo’, inspired by the ‘Tac-Tac’ sound of the hammer hitting the needle piercing the skin. He brought the heavily tattooed Prince Omai back to London, and sparked huge interest in body art, which had virtually disappeared in Europe after a papal bull banning it was issued in 787AD.

Once again, the convention will take place over three floors of the Atlantis building, part of The Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, situated at the heart of Jack The Ripper territory, now a bustling, funky area in the East End of London. For (much) more info check www.thelondontattooconvention.com from which tickets are available, priced at £18 per day or £45 for a three day pass.
