You have been booked to play at the Leeds & Reading festivals this year. Are you looking forward to it and how did the booking come about?
Yes we're definitely looking forward to it. It is a
dream come true for us to be a part of Reading/Leeds.
With our record coming out 10 days before the festival weekend, it was just perfect timing, and I think everyone at our label and booking agency knew that, so they did their best to get us on. We're very lucky.
When did you know you were playing?
We got a phone call one day from our management and they said that we got on! It was, and still is a huge deal for us. We're playing first on the NME stage, and we are seriouy stoked.
Will you be spending the whole weekend at the festivals?
We will be spending as much tine as we can watching all the different bands. I've never seen Radiohead, so that will be amazing I'm sure. Gaslight Anthem, AFI and Frank Turner are on our stage as well, so we're looking forward to seeing all of them. Unfortunately we have to be in Zurich the next day though, so we may have to leave a bit earlier from the Sunday show.
Is there anyone else you are looking forward to seeing at the festivals?
Unfortunately our friends in Polar Bear Club are playing on opposite days as us, but we're playing a couple shows with them afterwards, so it's ok. Radiohead, Brand New, AFI, Gaslight Anthem, and Frank Turner are all on our "bands to watch" list.
Do you have any funny festival experiences, either as a performer or a paying attendee?
On Warped Tour last year, we were playing in Fresno, California, and it was extremely hot out. So hot that the generator that powers our stage broke down. So not only did all of our amps and everything shut off mid song, but the giant blow up roof of the stage came crashing down on top of us. It was kind of like a "Are you kidding me!?!" moment.
You were booked to play at last year’s Leeds & Reading Festivals but you suddenly disappeared from the line up, what happened?
Were we actually booked to play? I didn't know that.
I knew there was talk of us playing, but it just never happened. We're gonna make up for it this year I guess.
How would you describe your perfect festival?
Lots of cheap food and water for the crowds so everyone is happy. Lots of amazing bands with short set times so nobody gets bored, and have it in the spring or fall. Nobody likes to bake out in the sun all day long!
You hail from Oregon, USA, for those of us not familiar with the State, tell us 10 interesting things about Oregon?
Our state motto is: She Flies With Her Own Wings
Our state's birthday is also Valentines day.
Oregon's nickname is The Beaver State. Ha.
Did UK kids ever play The Oregon Trail computer game in school? Probably not. Too bad for you, because it kicked ass. The Oregon Trail is the path pioneers took to come over to the west coast and settle down.
Broadway Calls is from there.
That's all I've got for now.
You have toured a lot during the past year. What is the main thing you look forward to doing when you get home at the end of a tour?
Sleeping in beds with girls. Some bands do go on tour to do that, but we come home to it. It's perfect. That and seeing all of our friends that we miss when we're gone. Which is most of the time.
What do you do to relax before and after a gig or festival show?
We don't really relax before a show. We try to keep the energy up until we're done playing for the day. Afterwards we basically try to find the best food around and stuff ourselves. Even if it's in another band's dressing room. That's right. We're food thieves.
