Hey! Yeah we're all really excited about playing Leeds and Reading this year. It's kind of a big deal for us because we've always gone to Leeds to watch our favorite local bands play and obviously the bigger bands. All three of us have been going for a while now, so it's really cool for us to be playing now, especially one of the bigger stages. We played on the introducing stage last year to quite a lot of people so I think that helped the booking, but I think what really swung it was the personal recommendation to the bookers from Jean Claude Van Damme. Can you believe that?... Anyway, I'm really excited... When did you know you were playing? Um... We knew we were playing a month or two back. It was killer getting the news we were booked because we'd been kind of waiting on tenter hooks you know? Our manager gave us a call when we we're driving late from a show - a lot of punching the air was had... Will you be spending the whole weekend at the festivals? I think so, but we'll be moving about a lot. We play Leeds on the friday, and then we'll rocket down the motorway in the truck to play Reading on the Saturday. Last years Reading show was sick, we'd never been there before and suddenly there was this crowd of people, mostly made up of 40 year old dudes all holding up their beers and nodding their heads. It was amazing. We also got given a dinosaur that screams three times when you press it's chest, that's been in the truck since, and a kid had made a banner out of his towel!! Anyway, after we play Reading this year we'll probably jet back to Leeds again - because we really want to watch the Deftones on Sunday. So we'll be there for the whole weekend, but we'll be burning about a lot like something out of Mad Max... Is there anyone else you are looking forward to seeing at the festivals? So Deftones for one! Um, then there's a bunch of our friends playing like Pulled Apart By Horses, and The Old Romantic Killer band so we'll be definitely trying to see them. They're great bands, and really nice dudes. Do you have any funny festival experiences, either as a performer or a paying attendee? A couple of years ago me and Tom (before this band even had really made itself) and whole bunch of other people, Sky Larkin included, I think I was living with half of them at that point, ended up trying to see who could jump over the highest tent. We got pretty high until either me or Tom misjudged our run-up and totally floored a 4 man-er. It was like watching a graceful King Kong taking out the Empire State Building. I was promptly dragged around the campsite in the remaining mess of tent. It was good. What other bands would you like to share the stage with past or present? I'd really like to share a stage with Weezer, but back when they we're playing their second album... And also the Foo's, but back in the late 90's. I'd love to play along side some more recent bands like Monotonix, or Torche maybe. We're all really digging those bands at the minute. Oh yeah, and Black Sabbath. How would you describe your perfect festival? Um... Well it would probably start with flying in on the back of a dragon, we'd fly right across the camp site areas and you'd be able to hear people going "WOAH! THAT'S DINOSAUR PILE-UP ON THE BACK OF A DRAGON!" We'd maybe have someone cool riding up there with us, like a Teenaged Dave Grohl or George Lucas (we'd be writing a new script together or something) Then we'd set down and immediately walk back stage to find Arnold Schwarzenegger waiting to have a beer or two with us. So we'd hang out for a bit talking about Conan and carbon emissions, eat some BBQ ribs with him and then we'd go and play through the set a little bit in the practice room we'd be sharing with Weezer ten years ago. Then we'd go out and headline the festival to a sell-out crowd, with the ghosts of Kurt Cobain, John Bonham, and and Jimmy Hendrix watching us with a crowd of people from the side of the stage, like in the ending of Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi, when Luke and everybody are partying, and the ghosts of Obi Wan, Qui Gon and Vader are just hanging out watching them... It'd just be sick!! What has been the highlight of your career so far? Well there's been a few! Getting to tour in Germany and France was really cool. We hadn't been out of the UK as a band until then. Playing Koko was really fun as well. Meeting the Melvins after playing Manchester Academy was just amazing... We actually played the Water Rats in London recently, and it was totally packed and there was a really good vibe going down there. That show was really exciting for us, so I'll remember that for sure... I'll also remember Steve's face as Tom launched his bass guitar right through his freaking kit... Now THAT was a highlight... If you hadn’t been in a band, what do you think you would have done with your life career wise? Probably tried to get in a band... And if that hadn't worked, I'd have probably tried to get in another band... And if that hadn't worked out, I'd have probably tried to drum in a band, but if that hadn't worked out, I'd have probably tried to find another band to be in... In the case that hadn't worked out though, I probably would have looked around for another band to be in... Maybe if that hadn't worked out I'd have gone back to school and started another band... If that hadn't stuck I would have looked in to moving somewhere else nice where I could join another band... If that hadn't been successful I'd have probably started another band probably. If you could change places with anyone for a day – who would it be and why? Oh that is a toughy... Ok... Maybe I'd swap with Edward Furlong back when he was shooting Terminator II, just because it's one of the coolest movies ever and he got to be like 16 years old and riding on the back of a Harley as Arnold Schwarzenegger drove him around in a leather jacket shooting a pump-action with one hand at a guy that can melt and only be destroyed by a molten metal bath... Pretty cool for a 16 year old right? Lucky kid. Or I might swap with Freddie Mercury on the day the Bohemian Rhapsody was written, so I could say I wrote it... Or I'd just swap with Luke Skywalker 'cos he get's to kiss his sister... Gross?
