American Pop-Punksters Set Your Goals eagerly anticipated follow up to Mutiny!  With guest vocals from Vinnie Caruana (I Am The Avalanche) Hayley Williams (Paramour) John Gula (Turmoil) and Chad Gilbert (New Found Glory), you just know that this is going to be a great album before you even put it in your cd player.

‘This Will Be The Death Of Us’ feat. Vinnie Caruana (I Am The Avalanche) is a powerful opening track with some great machine gunning riffs.

‘With Hoffman Lenses We Will See The Truth’ a 43 second ‘filler’ not really sure what it’s all about.

‘Look Closer’ a very up-beat  song that seems to be full of teenage angst and rebelling against what is expected of us in life.  With such lines as “Kids, school. Get married and beyond. Start a family. Hurry, move along”  as if life is just a conveyor belt of expectations from our Parents/teachers/bosses etc.

‘Summer Jam’ is a great bouncy track and a bit of an anthem.  About fun, enjoying the summer and being with friends.
‘Like You To Me’ is about being yourself and finding your own way in life and not being afraid to have a voice and an opinion.  It is a strong song with great vocals and killer guitars.  Nice vocal ping pong from  Matt and Jordan.
‘The Fallen’ a true pop-punk epic, fast vocal exchanges and machine gunning guitars backed by drums that are beating at the speed of light.

‘The Few That Remain’ feat. Hayley Williams (Paramour) Guest vocals from Hayley really make this track jump out at you, even though she only has a few lines they really blast this up a notch and her voice works well with Jordan and Matt. There is a nice mixture of talking/singing and screaming throughout.

‘Equals’ Old school start to this track, then it continues with a nice steady rhythm.  Another song that is packed with lyrics that many teenagers can relate to about problems that many of them face.  Near the end it suprises you as some really heavy growls are added to the vocals.

‘Caia Bleeds’ feat. John Gula (Turmoil) A heavy track with much more oomf than the rest of the album.  It is loud, brash, and very in your face. The lyrics make it more Death Metal than pop punk, especially with the added vocals from John Gula.  A cracking track!

‘Flawed Methods Of Persecution & Punishment’ Back to bouncy riffs for this track. Fast and furious guitar playing with loads of added cymbal play from Michael.

‘Arrival Notes’ a nice acoustic bit of guitar playing, no vocals and only just over a minute long.  Nice and totally unexpected

‘Our Ethos: A Legacy To Pass On’ feat. Chad Gilbert (New Found Glory) Chad’s voice seem to take over a bit in this track but it doesn’t stop it from being the possible Anthem of 2009. Lyrically it is strong and very well written.  They seem to have put everything into it that the kids of today want to hear.   My favourite chorus is at the mid point, just before Chad blasts in. The lyrics are “Because when there is no one there to hear you, the music will listen.  And when there's no one there to tell, the words will write themselves. So you say that this is trapping me. Yeah, maybe I agree. But there are ways in which I'm free that you will never be”.  This is truly a stand up, sing along, and shake your first in the air song.
This is a really impressive album that we know will do well.  It’s hard to imagine that this is only the second album from these Guy’s, It is polished, varied , well written and executed.

Move over all the wannabees  ‘Set Your Goals’ are in a league of their own!

They seem like a great band to catch live   9.5/10
