| Upload | You had a fantastic set at Damnation festival, what are your thoughts of the day? |
| 4wk | Chris:
Fuckin awesome, and I’m not sucking up, it really was a good day,
all the bands back stage were saying how cool it was, well run, good stage
sound, free beer ha ha and a great feeling of camaraderie. Fuck off Ozzfest
gimmi Damnfest! |
| Upload | What bands have influenced you over the years? |
| 4wk | Chris.
Christ I don’t know, too many to say, obviously we as a band have
certain influences like, dare Ii say it, Pantera, Machine Head, Slayer. I also think that we have a real British edge, which lends more to bands like Motorhead and Priest with a punk attitude gained from Discharge, GBH and the Exploited. On a more personal level I’m heavily influenced by Biff Byford, Rob Halford, James Hetfield, Lemmy and Nick Cave. Jay: I listen to tonnes of stuff but I guess when it comes down to writing, as long as it sounds punchy, active and heavy then I am happy. My roots as far as guitar goes are firmly still with Dime, Bobby Gustafson, Jeff Waters, Zakk, Max and Andreas, Kerry and Hanneman. Mind you saying that – Meshuggah have some heavy fucking riffs also I have to say that Biomechanical Chris/Jamie always amaze me - they are outstanding guitarists. We also recently toured with Stuck Mojo and I tell ya, performing under Rich Ward (Mojo/Fozzy/Duke) really makes a guitarist raise their game. |
| Upload | What else influences Fourwaykill? |
| 4wk | Chris: Beer, drugs and bitches! Ha ha… No I’m joking. Life in general is a struggle so that gives me tonnes of lyrical subject matter. 4WK are all about release, as Exodus once said "its all about good, clean friendly violent fun" |
| Upload | What are your plans for next year. Do you have your eye on any festivals? |
| 4wk | Jay:
Well… Plans for next year at the moment are to finish recording
‘Agressor’ which will take us into February, then we intend
to get out and about for some shows with friends the end January up to
the beginning of March then release the album for springtime. We are looking
good for being on a few of the big European metal festivals and we’re
going to try our utmost to get recognized by the Clear Channel and the
Download Festival in this country. So I guess we’re basically looking
at the front end of next year for 4wk at the moment, mainly because we
need to focus on the album and label stuff or we’re gonna end up
wasting opportunities. |
| Upload | Have you been approached by a label or close to any deals ? |
| 4wk | Jay:
Ha.. Yes and Probably…We have good label interest from Europe but
I don’t want to tempt fate and say too much right now but its looking
good and its all moving forward. We should have more news in the New Year
on this. Chris: Yeah, nothings signed, sealed or delivered yet, but they are cool so I think we will work together. It’s all gearing up for the year of the KILL. |
| Upload | Chris, going back to Damnation for a second, I saw your Messenger duet with Sonia Porzier from Mercury Rain. Do you do any other guest slots with local Bristol bands? |
| 4wk | Chris:
I have been known to sing the odd Priest cover with our friends Osmium,
but as far as serious guest slots go, the Mercury Rain thing is the only
thing I’ve done and it was really cool, it was nice to sing on something
musically different from the KILL, I have spoken to other bands that we
are close to about dueting on something so who knows...watch this space. |
| Upload | How is it going with Aggressor and the writing? |
| 4wk | Chris:
Ha ha…. I KEEP saying this at gigs "It will be out in the spring"
but saying that it may be more like the summer, purely for the fact that
we have a label interested and we may have to juggle things about a bit
for tours and the release. The album is pretty much written but there
are still a couple of tracks to finish – we don’t write fast
ya know! Saying that, we haven’t disappointed yet, trust me it will
be worth it, a worthy follow up to “24 hours” that’s
for fuckin sure. It’s going to be killer!! |
| Upload | You recently parted ways with your bassist Podge, Bobby from Panic Cell stood in for a few shows but you now have a new full time bassist in Clive…How is it going ? |
| 4wk | Chris:
He is a right Caaant !!! Nah, he is the business, really he is. He is
da Clive! He was just waiting to be Fourway’d, he just didn’t
know it until we met. Jay: Ya know he just got endorsed by Spector for his basses so he has definitely got the 4wk blag ha ha. We’ve started writing together recently for the album and I’ve not had to tell him he is coming up with rubbish yet ha ha. I tell ya we cant wait to get the new stuff down and get it out live, everything’s very solid with the Kill and we’re all very happy with the line up now. |
| Upload | Who would you like to share a stage with ? |
| 4wk | Chris:
Not any of this band for a start! Ha ha.. urmm.. Fast Eddie Clarke, Ian
Kilmister or Philthy Animal Taylor. |
| Upload | How do previous bands you were in compare to Fourwaykill? |
| 4wk | Chris:
Every band has its own unique charm but I’m sure Jay will agree
with me when I say 4WK is the best band any of us have been in, what we are doing now is from the heart, its fucked up ha-ha but its true. Jay: Yeah the other bands were all good, we all played together locally but this is definitely what we were all looking for, I wouldn’t swap it. |
| Upload | What is the best gig you've played? |
| 4wk | Chris:
God what an impossible question to answer. The first Bloodstock was pretty
special as was supporting Anthrax , but then purely as a turning point
in our career when we first played the Underworld ( Camden ) with Diamond
Head. It was shortly after that it all started to take off for us, oh
and Download 2006 was pretty cool too.. Ha ha……… Jay: I don’t have any one favorite really.... but highs this year alone are Mojo, Panic Cell, Onslaught, Entombed, Damnation festival. Bloodstock Open Air, Weymouth, Wakefield, Newcastle, Dublin………. They were all good. This year has definitely been the most fun I have had on the road – I hope it continues to next year. |
| Upload | And the worst? |
| 4wk | Chris:
Well I’m sure there are some debates on this as fans and bands have
a different perception of what is a good gig, we’ve never thought
"fuck, that was shit" but obviously some gigs are better than
others – wouldn’t you say Jay ha ha……… Jay: ha-ha, I’ve thought that once or twice, but not for a while now... |
| Upload | What would the ultimate Fourwaykill video be like? |
| 4wk | BANNED!! |
| Upload | Who would you like to tour with? |
| 4wk | Chris:
We have had the honor to play with so many of our favorite bands already,
but of course there are those we would love to hook up with: Motorhead,
Fear Factory, Machine head, Slayer, Priest. Jay: Any good heavy band that has fun without their heads up their own asses or with shit attitudes. |
| Upload | Finally – what do you guys want for Christmas ? |
| 4wk | Chris:
Fuck knows, a bottle of Jack and that bird from Arch Enemy? Jay: Nice one Chris ha ha – I think we should talk to Clive and have an all ya can drink night at his club ! hint hint… Oh and a new custom Gibson explorer of course. |
