| Upload | What are the band member’s names and what are their roles ? |
| Nothing Gained | Emma Finch- Vocals |
| Upload | How long have you been together and how did you start the band? |
| Nothing Gained | We have been together just over two years after Emma, Yusuf and I joined what was left of the original line up of Nothing Gained in Jan 2006. The band all came together when Yusuf and myself were forming our own band and Nothing Gained were looking for a Bass player, Singer and Guitarist. Being an old school friend of David he asked us to join Nothing Gained. with Emma joining a few weeks later after we posted an ad on the internet. She turned up and has refused to leave ever since. |
| Upload | So who are your main influences? |
| Nothing Gained | The band has a wide and varied musical influence from classical through to the ultra aggressive hard rock metal bands. As far as bands that have had a direct influence on our musical style and approach to song writing, musically we would tip our hats to Stone Sour, American Head Charge, Korn and Drowning Pool. From a vocal point of view, Emma listens and takes ideas from a more classical and commercial group of bands such as Skunk Anansie and Spice Girls (Just kidding). Emma does also refer to bands like Arch Enemy when considering a heavy approach. |
| Upload | Which other bands do you admire and why? |
| Nothing Gained | I guess there are a few bands we admire, Metallica
is up there as like so many bands, they were the reason a lot of us started
playing. The first band Dave and I played in when we first started was
playing Metallica covers. After 6 months of playing not much else apart
from Enter Sandman we soon moved on to writing our own stuff. But I would say Machine Head is the band we most admire one of the reasons is they are just a great live band and always have been. Even from there first album, it’s good to see them finally getting the respect they deserve. |
| Upload | Is there any other band or individual that you would like to work with? |
| Nothing Gained | Rick Rubin Far to many to list . |
| Upload | Where do you see yourselves, career wise, this time next year? |
| Nothing Gained | Hopefully releasing another album that will rock even harder then anything we have done, and playing as many gigs in as many different countries as possible.. |
| Upload | You have an album called ‘Nascent’ being release on 24th March by ‘Rotting Inside records’. Who did you work with on the production of the album and was it a fun process.? |
| Nothing Gained | This time around we self produced and recorded the album ourselves, so it was a pretty easy process (Some of the time). At least this way we had no time or money constraints and could really focus on the music.. |
| Upload | You are touring America in July, where are you playing, who are you playing with and are you looking forward to going there. |
| Nothing Gained | Well
we are starting off in Minneapolis on the 12th of July, then Wisconsin,
Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and finishing up in New York about
the 27th of July. We’re just waiting on venue details at the moment,
so keep checking out our myspace page for all the latest tour news.
We can’t wait to go or at least
most of us, Dave is a little worried he might pass out from drinking
and wake up missing his eyebrows. But other then that we all looking
forward to it, especially as we are playing with our drinking buddies
Jagged Spiral |
| Upload | Are there any other countries you would like to tour in and why? |
| Nothing Gained | We are happy to go to anywhere where people want to
see us. |
| Upload | It is unusual to have a heavier band fronted by a female vocalist, do you get any strange reactions from people when Emma starts singing and her powerful voice emerges |
| Nothing Gained | Yeah
for sure Emma is just a freak of nature, it always puts a smile on my
face when I see peoples first reactions when she let’s loose.
As you can hear on the album we start off with a mellow intro, which we normally come on stage to. So I people hear that and then see Emma and expect us to be like evanescence, that before she starts singing some of the heavier stuff. There is almost a look of disbelieve,
how can this skinny girl sound like something from a horror movie |
| Upload | If you could swap places with someone for a day, who would it be and why? |
| Nothing Gained | As a band if we could swap places with someone it would have to be another band such as Metallica and a day when they headline a big day out festival. To have the opportunity to play to that many people is a rush that we hope to one day achieve in our own right.. |
| Upload | If you could never play music again, what do you think you would do with your life? |
| Nothing Gained | Tesco Shelf Stacker or park bench drunk. |
