Band Bio:

Shrinking Violet are a melodic rock band from Lanark and its surrounding areas in Central Scotland. Having played a number of gigs as a three-piece band during 2003 and the first half of 2004 original members Andrew Burton (Vocals & Guitar), Angus Jackson (Drums & Vocals) and David Richardson (Bass & Vocals) were joined by guitarist Keith Scott in the summer of last year. Since then the band have gone from strength to strength, gaining reputation and following throughout their native central Scotland. Over the past twelve months the band have gigged intensely which has seen them play some of the biggest venues in Scotland, a young offenders institution and entertain Irvine Welsh in an Edinburgh club.
The band also played at the Cavern Club in Liverpool where they met many new friends and fans and are scheduled again to play again on 13 August.

Having already a fair amount of gigging experience as a three-piece Shrinking Violet emerged as a four-piece in late July 2004 at Edinburgh’s Studio 24 club. Over the next few weeks the band broke in the new line up and played throughout central Scotland’s pubs and venues including King Tuts and Nice and Sleazy in Glasgow coupled with The Venue and Ego on the east coast. Having changed from a sludgy pop-punk act to a more organised aggressive indie rock band the group then flew to mid-west Germany in August, where as a three-piece they had already toured, to record some demos for sending to labels and radio.

Once they returned home in early September the band were selected to support Ocean Colour Scene and a one-off, sold out gig in Scotland held at the world famous Barrowlands in Glasgow where they were very well received by those in attendance as well as the OCS members and crew. Their performance the following week at the Merchant City Music Festival also in Glasgow caught the attention of organisers UZ events who have confirmed the band for this years Big in Falkirk held in Calendar Park, Falkirk on Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May.

October and November provided more time for writing and getting the new line up tighter as well as many gigs throughout Central Scotland. Just prior to Christmas the band were asked to support Ocean Colour Scene again on their acoustic tour of the North of Scotland, featuring a gig at the breathtaking sold out Rothes hall in Glenrothes, which saw them sell out of merchandise every night and have to get more knocked up the next day and driven to wherever they were playing that night.
Having continued to play throughout Central Scotland in early 2005 the bands following and reputation has grown rapidly. At the start of the year Billy Smith of new Glasgow independent label Ascain Bay Records approached SV with a recording offer, which after discussion and negotiations was signed by the band. As a result the bands debut single _Past the Point of panic/All worked Out_____was released on 6th June this year and, reached NO 18 in the UK Indie single charts as well as No22 in the OFFICIAL SCOTTISH single charts.
