Interviewee: Alex, Adam & Phil - Wasted Days Interviewer/s: Kate James & Matt James Date: 26 October 2005 Venue: Hard Rock Cafe, London
| Upload | How long have you been together and how did you start the band? |
| Wasted Days | Alex:
That kinda depends on how you define a band, cos me and Adam started playing
together with another bassist in 1999 even though I had only just picked
up a guitar and couldn’t play the thing. So we spent a few years
getting to a reasonable playing standard and then we started playing covers,
played a few school shows and called ourselves Wasted Days. We were never
really good until a couple of years ago though *laughs* that’s about
when we learnt how to play our instruments properly… Phil: And then I came along and ruined it all. Adam: Yeah, Phil’s actually only been in the band since around June 2005. So in a way we feel like we’ve only just begun! |
| Upload | Which other bands do you admire and why? |
| Wasted Days | Phil:
You’ll probably find that all of our CD collections have so much
variety in them that it’s hard to pick out certain bands. Punk wise,
I’d have to say No use for a name, Bad Religion, Ataris. I dunno,
any band that does what they like and sounds good. *Adam looks confused* Alex: There’s a band called Never Heard Of It who are amazing and have gotten so far from their own efforts, they’re toured like crazy, set up a label for themselves and self funded everything. I think that because they’ve got this far by themselves people respect them a lot…plus they are wicked. |
| Upload | Where do you see yourselves, career wise, this time next year? |
| Wasted Days | Alex: If Adam doesn’t quit to peruse his modelling career with L’Oreal then hopefully we will be in the same place we are now, still having fun but hopefully with a lot more people. We would have our 2006 EP out by then and have hopefully sold some Wasted Days merchandise to help promote our band. |
| Upload | What do you want for Christmas? |
| Wasted Days | Phil:
You *laughs* …All I want for Christmas is you, ohh we should write
a song about that! *Adam looks confused* |
| Upload | I think Mariah Carey has already written song called that. |
| Wasted Days | Alex:
Oh, how about having Mariah Carey for a Christmas present! Adam: Damn, how about we share her? Alex: hmmm… Phil: *To Alex* You said you wouldn’t share anyone with us earlier *Alex looks confused* Adam: For Christmas I want my restraining order on Mariah Carey taken away *laughs* Alex: OR, how about a puzzle with less pieces…500 pieces is too many, it takes too long! Phil: So you want a puzzle with one piece? Alex: That would be sweet! Adam: Or 2, to make things err…man this Christmas is going to be interesting! |
| Upload | What is your favourite gig that you have played? |
| Wasted Days | Phil:
hmm, I’d have to say The Bull & Gate on my 2nd ever gig with
Wasted Days. Alex: I think my favourite was when we played the Hope & Anchor recently and all the other bands dropped out leaving the place packed with just our fans so we got to play what we wanted for as long as we wanted, that was fun! Phil: And also it was the day that England won the ashes, so that was also pretty cool. Alex: And then Adam did a strip show for us… Adam: *laughs* Yeah, where’s my money for that! |
| Upload | What is the best gig you have ever been to? |
| Wasted Days | Phil:
Easy… Adam: Wait, you went to a Wasted Days gig before you were even in the band. That has to be your favourite gig you’ve been to! Phil: No no, it lacked a really cool bass player back then *laughter* err, mine would have to be Bad Religion 2002 on their “process for belief” tour at the Brixton Academy. Best gig ever. Alex: I got to meet Avril backstage for a bit at her Brighton Centre gig 2005, That was one of my faves. Adam: Alex and me have been to a few Blink shows, but the one at Brixton actually in 2004… Phil: Yeah, Brixton is the place to be. Adam: Yeah, that gig was cool. All the small girls passed out by the time Blink came on so we were right up front and stuff. |
| Upload | When do you think you will be releasing an album? |
| Wasted Days | Adam:
Err, we are actually in the middle of recording a long EP at the moment,
which will be ready for 2006 Alex: What does EP stand for? Like Extra Poo…cos its like a single with some extra crap added to it or something? Phil: It’s extended play, but it’s really like a wannbee album *laughs* |
| Upload | We look forward to hearing that one then! If you were a superhero what would your name be and what special powers would you have? |
| Wasted Days | Phil:
I’d be superman so I could go for ages, woooooo! *Laughs* Adam: I’d be x-ray man so I could see through stuff...like clothes Phil: You pervert, get a girlfriend. Adam: Excuse me “Superman” Alex: I’ll be superwoman, so I could get with Phil! Phil: They never actually got together though, I really wanted big things to happen for them. Maybe have a freaky kid or something, hmm. |
| Upload | If we asked you to do a Band Day with us would you do it and which other bands would you like to share the line up with? |
| Wasted Days | Adam:
We’re up for pretty much any gig so definitely, Upload are really
friendly people and have really helped us out a lot so yeah… Alex: Tell us the time and place and we are there…as long as Mariah Carey isn’t there, cos if she is then Adam has to be at least 100 feet away from her! *Laughter* Phil: I was going to say I wanted to share the line-up with her, ah well! *laughs* |
| Upload | Upload: What is the maddest thing you have ever done? |
| Wasted Days | Alex: This interview… |
