Well I have always wondered why you had to pay £4.90 to cross the bridge into Wales, well today it became obvious to me, because the mighty Billy Talent are playing a show at the Cardiff Solus that’s why, and I would have paid ten times that amount to watch these guys play. We were fortunate enough be given the chance to interview the guys before the show and you can check that out HERE. The
queue outside the solus was already stretching back and down the stairs
when we arrived at the venue, fortunately having the chance to interview
the guys first meant we did not have to join it. When the doors finally
opened the crowd piled in until the room was full to capacity with not
much room left for moving around. Everybody was already talking eagerly
about the upcoming show |
The zico chain were the support act for the night, I was looking forward to seeing these guys play as we had met them the Download festival a few months before and they played a great set there. They did not disappoint tonight either, the Brighton three piece played a loud pounding set which really got the crowd warmed up, Rohypnol, Social Suicide & 1234 to name but a few. As
the set finished bassist Chris Threw his bass over the drummer and across
the floor and left the stage, now that was a rock and roll set. |
After the stage change the awesome Billy Talent arrived on stage, the whole crowd erupted in an enormous cheer. They flew straight into the current single ‘Devil In A Midnight Dress’ which is such a massive track and a perfect opener to the night, they stormed from this track right into ‘Red Flag’ which is another massive track. The sound in this venue was amazing and the power with which vocals and instruments came out meant everybody in the place could feel the same pumping in there chest, and there was not a single person that was not singing along. The
played some more tracks from the new album including ‘Worker Bees’
‘Line And Sinker’ and ‘This Suffering’. It is
a true testament to the sheer popularity of Billy Talent by the way
that people were singing all the words to these tracks even though the
new album has only been out for a couple of weeks. |
The pit in front of the stage was going mad with a frenzy of bodies all bouncing around. “This next song is for one lucky lady” shouts vocalist Ben “who broke my fuckin heart, and cheated on me while I was away” They play the highly charged ‘The Ex’ which has the pit at its wildest state yet and everybody in the room screaming out the words. “And this is for the one who made it all better”. ‘Surrender’ follows which is an amazing and is a huge contrast from the hard fast pit-inducing tracks. ‘Perfect World’, ‘Cut The Curtains’, ‘Fallen Leaves’ and ‘Standing In The Rain’ followed and was greatly received by the crowd who were all having one of the best gigs of their lives judging by the looks on their faces. Then came ‘Burn The Evidence’ and ‘Prisoners Of Today’ followed by ‘River Below’ then announced their departure and thanked everybody for coming. As most people these days know that when the headlining band leave for the first time 9 times out of 10 the will return for an encore, and so when they returned it was to much cheering and screaming from the crowd, the intro to ‘This Is How It Goes’ blasted out before banging straight into the track, then came ‘Nothing To Lose’ followed by the exceptional ‘Try Honesty’ which saw the crowd bounce around with all the energy they had left knowing that this would be the last track. It was then all over, it seemed to go too quickly but this was just because it was such and amazing show, and I left like everybody with a huge smile on my face and various lyrics going through my head knowing that I would be seeing this fantastic band once again in October. The
drive back across the bridge was free and I managed to listen to both
the albums again all the way through, although I did have to drive a
little slower than I normally would so that I could get all the tracks
in. |
