Thursday I don't actually know of The Quiet Kill, but I was impressed at the start of the set by a few lovely metal/heavy riffs from the guitarists. However this didn't last... I lost intrest mid-set and only regained intrest during the outro of the last track. I can't really comment much on this band other than the Female bass player was well into the band as much as the guys! Next is one of my faviroute unsigned acts "Enter Shikari", these were insanely good!! Sparked several huge pits in the "Comedy & Cabaret Stage" whilst they fired through several of theyre songs "Return To Energiser", "Sorry Your Not A Winner", The recent Download only single "Mothership"... And then ending the set on "Ok Time For Plan B!". After Shikari we headed back to find the rest of the group missing Sikth, but coming back intime to watch punk rock karaoke... which was rather amusing, akthough not punk rock half the time... We had renditions of "Killing in the name of", "Londons Calling", "Pretty Vacant" amongst several others. The set was ended by the bass player having a go himself and singing Motorheads "Ace Of Spades" which sparked onehell of a reaction in the form of Moshing and crowd surfing. Friday After watching Hey Edison it was the first trek to the Main Stage where Killswitch Engage had just started. With Adam doing his usual Insults/Sick Humor it was a good way to wake up. The set was ended on "My Last Serenade" if i remember correctly. Because Story Of The Year had pulled out next up was "Taking Back Sunday". Iv'e never been a fan of these but most of my group are so stayed with them.. And TBS didn't convince me they were any good live either. I do remember one statement from the singer though... "Whos lookign forward to SLAYERRRRRRRRRRR!....... I can't even make that sound good, Look at me I look like a puff". Staying on the main stage seemed to be my trend for the weekend. So Next was "Less Than Jake" these were a breath of fresh air. I didn't know much stuff but it didn't matter. Lots of stage antics, Jolly music and a general good time.. The only song i Recognised was "Overrated (Everything Is)". A very enthusastic set with the band clearly enjoying themselves throughout as were the crowd. After this I then ventured furthur into the front barrier and stage centre for "Bullet For My Valentine". Iv'e never intended to see this band but this was my 3rd time in 3months. They didn't impress me the first 2 times but this time they have transferred me. I relaly do love this band. They got the crowd moving and really warmed up for Slayer. They came on with "Hand Of Blood" and stormed through "Tears Don't Fall", "Four words To Choke upon" amongst others. This next band is the band that teh Festival was all about for me (Them and muse), Slayer!. I have been meaning to see this band for a very long time. And they didn't dissapoint. The rain started Just as slayer came on stage and ended as they walked off. The highlight of the set would definatly be "South Of Heaven" or "Raining Blood". I wasn't intending on seeing "My Chemical Romance" but I was just following my group if i'm honest. So on they come... And they allready win the Leeds crowd over by bringing a union jack onto the stage just before entering into "I'm Not Okay". This was a pleasent suprise I really enjoyed the set! We were treated to some new songs and some old crowd faviroutes before ending on "Helena". Gracing the stage next were "Placebo", Unkowen to our group at the time this would be our last band of the night. So we was on the Barrier for Placebo (well most of us was), and I must say when Brian Molko walked on stage with no hair it was a sight and a half. Anyway... we got treated to what I think are some rear live tracks like "Special K" and "Blackeyed"... It was one hell of an amazing set! So at the end of Placebo there was a random surge forwards, and because it was unexpected a member of our group (Liv) shewas standing sideways and this Push brusied the side of her chest and she was in agony so we decided we would head back to the tent rather than make her suffer through Peal Jam.
So we awake the next morning, Bruiesed, Battered, Tired but Happy. The Saturday to me looked as if it wasn't going to be a very good day, i didn't really like any of the bands on the Saturday lineup, neither did the rest of them! haha.. So we decided to collapse at the Mainstage, where Towers Of London woke us up with a bit of old school punk. I wasn't to keen on thier music but they did an amazing punk cover of "Freebird" which was awesome to hear!. Now was a band I was intrested in seeing "Fightstar". I had read good things about them and also that they had been bottled alot of the time. But alas no bottles, and I was in awe... I never thought I would see Charlie scream like that...I never thought it would sound so raw and metal... it was unreal and they have their selves a new fan! Dashboard Confessional took to the stage next. I personally didn't like them. But saying that I knew none of the music, and they did have a good size crowd singing along. I can't really comment other than the singer reminded me of Ben Stiller. Before going to Leeds I had always said I would never see Taking Back Sunday, Panic! At The Disco or Fall Out Boy live... Because I disliek theyre music. But alas I'm about to see number 2 of that list.. Panic! At The Disco.... I was expecting one of the 3 bands to win me round this weekend and I thought it would be these, but nope they really didn't impress me one bit esepcially by ruining some "Radiohead" and "Smashing Pumpkins". Well we went and got some Lunch, and the group split up me and Joe wanderd round whilst the Subways were playing and checked out some unsigned talent from Liverpool which was......well not very good. And had a nose in the tents where i think "Peaches" or something were coming onto the stage. We didn't liek it anywho so we trekked over to the main stage again... And guess what... Yep time to tick number 3 off the list it was time for me to see "Fall Out Boy". I expected nothing good, but I really was shocked... They have an AMAZING live show, with lots of jumping round, kinda like Story of the year style. A highlight for me was when the bass player said "Ok yesterday at reading *insertnamehere*(Panic! singer) got knocked out by being bottled on stage, so in tribute we are going to throw a load of shit roudn during this next song".... He then gets crowd to part and set up a full scale bottle war for "Sugar were going down". I never thought I would say it but they were extreamly good! After Fall out Boy we all headed back to the tent to refresh and group up and decide what to do. Consideirng we knew some Kaiser Chiefs and Franz Ferdinand we decided to go and have a little dance to them. So we got there and Colin Murray walks out on stage and says "Well i'm not from Leeds so I can't introduce this next band, ladies and gentleman Chirs Moyles!!!".... Chris Moyles comes out and then says "It is my pleasure to introduce to you on of the most talented..................Comedians in the world Peter Kay!!"..... Out comes Peter Kay.... "Two Words.... Kaiser Chiefs.." *Cue black curtains open to reveal stage*... "Look at that no exspense Spurrred (spared)". On stroll the Kaiser Chiefs to thunderous applause as the burst into "Na na na na na". The singer was everywhere and wasn't still for a minute and clearly loved being "Back home". We got treated to some new songs also, so looks like theres going to be a follow up to "Employment". But after "Modern Way", "I Predict A Riot"... There was only one way to close it and that was with an extended version of "Oh My God". So we creaped forward to we was fairly close for "Franz Ferdinand". I didn't expect much from these again... but I was extreamly suprised and I knew more songs than I thought I did.. It was an extreamly energetic set with a very nice stage setup to go with it! After the headliner me and Joe headed over to watch "Dirty Sanchez". Don't really know if I should review it or not but there was Blood, Puke, Guitars, Drumstick Sword fighting ( But drumsticks were up theyre booty), and well I won't go into what they did last... All in all a very suprising and eventfull and good day afterall.
The "Muse" Day, the Day all of us were looking forward to the most, the day which turned into probs the most eventfull of the weekend. We get up and again go to see our local friends band "Hey Edison", and then go purchase Muse T-shirts and created our muse posse. After we were all kitted up for teh headliner we headed off front centre for a band I was really looking forward to "Flogging Molly".. Not only because they and I are Irish but because the music is just so cool! They came on and straight away the "Skank Pits" started which ended up bigger than slayers circle pits. I remember them dedicating "Devils Dance Floor" to "All the red heads because the fires allready burning and your one step closer to hell"... And they ended on two of my faviroutes "Seven Deadly Sins" and "Raise Whats Left Of The Flag". During "Raise Whats..." I decided to Crowd surf out as our group had been split up. Once reunited we generally wasted time whilst Wolfmother and The Cribs where on the stage by going round the shops and back to the tent and such. After this we trekked agian to the main stage and sat down and watched/listend to "The Futureheads", they seemed to be pretty tight and there was a few catchy songs! Greeting us next were "Dirty Pretty Things", I knew none of theyre songs other than "Bang Bang Your Dead", They didn't appear amazing live but they were OK. Feeder was taking to the stage as we moved into the crowd, I was hoping they would tour theyre current "Singles" Album, rather than the Slow stuff. And they did. I was extreamly happy none of the slow junk. We got my personal faviroute "Seven Days In The sun", "Come Back Around", and of course "Buck Rodgers". An extrreamly good performance from them! We progressed into the crowd for "The Streets" I wasn;t to sur what reaction they would get with them being hip-hop, but they went down well!. An extreamly tight set and I was impressed alot by them!. During the set we spotted Dominic Howard (muse) and when The streets got everyone to sit down our Muse posse screame dat him standing up and he turned and took a picture of us and gave us a thumbs up! =D. Anyway after an awesome set from "The Streets" the biggest shock of the weekend was next "Artic Monkeys". So they drag the biggest crowd of the entire festival... but that encouraged about 60,000 people to squeeze in from the side, of the first barrier creating the biggest sideways force and forwards force iv'e ever been in. Put it this way we was on the 3rd row and we didn't even see the actual band on the stage. Iv'e never felt so bad in my life the pressure was intense so much so one of our friends (liv again) passed out in the crowd so we all climbed out after the opening song (I bet you look good on the dance floor) over the barrier, and waited for Liv to com eout of the medi tent... after that liv was still shaking so we went back to the tent to get her warm etc... By this stage we was prepared to miss the entire of Muse's set because of it. But alas after much discussion and getting warm Liv said she was up for going back. Hearing Muse playing over the trees was shear torture, But through the rain we managed to get a decent spot just as they went into "Feeling good".. and we were treated to the awesome rundown of "Newborn", "plug In Baby", "Time Is Running OUt" and "Stockholm Syndrome" and finally ending on "Take A Bow" With some huge flames for the end! Muse are definatly THE best live band I have ever seen, They just have the presence!.... Iv'e seen lots and the only band that can beat them live is Rammstein and tahts only 'cos of theyre Pyro! Can't wait for November!.. All In all a very good weekend wit h no riots so it's all good! =D
