After spending the afternoon hanging around inside the venue and having a listen to sound check we were very much looking forward to the show. We were lucky enough to be able to get a second interview, this time with the whole band. You can check that out HERE. The
support band for this evening are The Bangkok 5, they are a 5 piece
band from California. They came onto the stage to a fanfare of trumpets
and played straight into a heavy pounding track. I had never heard of
this band before but they were a good choice as a last minute stand
in. They play quite a heavy pumping set and the singer takes to the
crowd barrier to interact with this up for it crowd. |
After a stage change and much cheering from the crowd as various roadies take to the stage to move equipment, the venue goes dark and the crowd cheer ‘Papa Roach’ ‘Papa Roach’. The whole place erupts as the band takes to the stage and pound straight into the amazing first single “To Be Loved” from the new album “The Paramour Sessions”. The whole crowd goes wild and sings the words to this great track much to the appreciation of the band. They move swiftly into the second track “Getting Away With Murder” from the 2004 album of the same name. The crowd go wild again and bounce up and down, you can feel the floor banging underneath you feet from the capacity crowd. Part way through the track Coby gives the order ‘Scream’ and the crowd let out an ear piercing scream. ‘Are
you guys ready to get out of fuckin control ?’ he asks ‘I
wanna see this mosh pit go off’ with that they play the awesome
track “Alive (N Out Of Control)” and the mosh pit really
does go off with every pair of feet bouncing into the air with the beat
of this tremendous track. Towards the end of the track Coby jumps from
the stage and leans over the crowd barrier to touch hands with these
up for it fans, who scream with delight as they get to touch their idol,
all hands are now stretch out to greet him. After re taking the stage
they pound out another amazing track “Crash” which with
its heave pounding addictive chorus gets this already sweaty crowd even
sweatier, the lights dim and the sound fades for 30 seconds or so then
the chorus bangs back out across the room. ‘I just wanna say thank
you to everybody for coming out” shouts Coby ‘were gonna
play you some more songs from our new album’ next up is another
fantastic track in the shape of “The World Around You”,
its amazing that despite the fact that the album was only recently released
the fans already know all of the words to the new material, it is a
true testament to the amazing writing from these guys and the fan base
that the band have that just takes in everything they do. |
‘Thank you, you guys are beautiful’ exclaims Coby, the crowd respond with a chant ‘Papa Roach’ ‘Papa Roach’. ‘Its great to be back with all of you beautiful people’ continues Coby. The chilled out intro to the new track “Forever” comes from the speakers and the crowds hands are all waving, that is until the chorus comes slamming in hitting you hard in the chest and compelling you to jump into the air and punch your fists. Its clear from the look on the bands faces that they are having just as much fun playing as the fans are listening, Coby’s powerful voice is filling every corner of this packed venue. After a stunning instrumental session with the crowd clapping out a beat Coby announces ‘Were gonna take you back to the old school’ and they play the classic “Dead Cell” from the 2000 album “Infest” which the crowd go mental over and the floor feels like it will collapse from the pits that have erupted. Its is an amazing sight to see everybody from the front to the back all going mad for this track. The
plough instantly into the anthem like “Not Listening” from
the album “Getting Away With Murder” which once again sees
the crowd going wild. ‘Are you guys having a good time’
shouts Coby and then flies into the awesome track “She Loves Me
Not” from the 2002 album “Lovehatetragedy”. The crowd
shows no sign of tiring as the mosh to every track that these guys play
with the same energy as the first. ‘Make some noise’ shouts
Coby right before the rap section of this track, and the crowd punch
their fists into the air and scream. ‘Who has bought out new album
The Paramour Sessions’ asks Coby by the sounds of the cheer from
the crowd everybody has, ‘And who likes that shit’ he asks,
and by the even bigger cheer from the crowd everybody does. ‘We
are gonna play you some more new songs from the album’, ‘This
ones called……’, ‘Nah im not gonna tell you’
he says ‘Sing it’ he screams and the band sing out ‘Woooo
Hoooo’ and the crowd instantly know the track is “Time Is
Running Out” and they all sing along as Coby encourages ‘Sing
It’ and he sings ‘Wooo Hooo’ and the crowd sing ‘Wooo
Hooo’ and Coby sings ‘Yeah hea’ and the crowd sing
‘Yeah hea’. |
‘Fuck yeah’ exclaims Coby ‘Now we are gonna take you back to our second album “lovehatetragedy”’, ‘This song is called “Born With Nothing, Die With Everything”’, ‘I wanna see this whole floor jump’ and they do, throughout the length of the song. ‘Are you all still alive?’ he asks and the crowd respond with a cheer ‘And everybody at the back?’ and another cheer echoes across the room. ‘Thanks for being a part of what we do’ shouts Coby as he throws a towel into the crowd which promptly gets torn to shreds. Next up is the haunting track “Scars” from the “Getting Away With Murder” album, this track sees everybody’s hand in the air and the fans singing the words, and in the appropriate part of the track they all scream ‘Go Fix Yourself’, a truly great track. ‘For this next song were gonna slow it down a little’ says Coby, ‘This song is about playing too many shows, too many women and too much booze’, ‘This song is called “Reckless”’. Another great some from the new album “The Paramour Sessions” and once again the fans know and sing all the words. ‘Im
ready to turn this rock show up a notch’ Coby shouts. ‘You
ready to go wild?’ from the screams from the crowd its safe to
say that they are ready ‘Anyone who wants to sit down better pack
up and go home’, ‘You better kick this shit off Wolverhampton’,
‘Where are my blood brothers at?’ the crowd go mental once
again and as Coby jumps down in front of the pit and sings the whole
song “Blood Brothers” standing on the barrier and reaching
into the crowd with his mic to let them sing. The classic “Broken
Home” follows from the album “Infest” and once again
the crowd sing along. ‘No matter how hard this life gets’
says Coby ‘I always find a reason to smile’, ‘And
tonight im fuckin happy’ They belt out the classic “Last
Resort” from the “Infest” album and Coby once again
encourages the crowd ‘Sing it’ but the crowd need no encouragement
to sing yet another of Papa Roach’s exceptional tracks. ‘I
wanna thank you all’ he says and the band leave the stage. |
| The crowd chant again ‘Papa Roach’ ‘Papa Roach’ and ‘One more song’, there is a huge cheer as the band return to the stage and sing the fantastic “Roses On My Grave” you can see and feel the emotion in Coby’s voice as this awesome song is blasted across the venue. The band finish the night with the classic “Between Angels And Insects” from the album “Infest”. The hot and sweaty crowd give it one last push as Coby states ‘One last chance to dance’ as the the chorus pounds out one last time. ‘I wanna thank you guys for being such an awesome crowd’, ‘Thanks you so much, we will be back in February’. With that the stage goes dark and the band are gone. This was one of the best gigs we have had the pleasure of reviewing and the new album “The Paramour Sessions” is without a doubt the best album we have heard in 2006. Thanks guys for such an amazing show and we will definitely be seeing you in February. |
